Default chat room

what about a chat room if your having a conversation with someone instead of posting endless messages and clog up the thread is it possible to have a chat room where members can go and talk

what you think?

Just added a shoutbox on the top of the index page. Not exactly a chatroom, but I like to get some suggestions on how we could use the "shoutbox" and/or "chatroom."

Whatever is entered in the shoutbox is not logged (saved).

EDIT: Actually it is logged, but with the shouts that you post, you can edit or delete them.

In addition to this, you can click on a person in the shoutbox and you can go into a "private tab." I only tested this for two usernames, so I don't know if it works for more than 2.

Try it.

EDIT: Things that I learned...

1. You can have a private chat with another user. The interaction shows up with the prefix PM.
2. You can edit/delete your "shout" by clicking on your comment.
3. Clicking on the "SprinterBox" link, will show stats and the list of comments.
4. Vulgar words are filtered.

Just added...

1. All messages in the SprinterBox will be pruned (deleted) every Sunday, 11:59pm.

I've noticed new users have been shouting questions that would have otherwise been posted in a new thread (I guess).

Is it possible - is it a good idea, even - to decorate the chatroom / shoutbox / SprinterBox with a blurb that succinctly says, "Got Question? Search Forum, then Post Message," or something similar.

-Jon

PS: how about a decorative hyperlink like this:

Got Question? Click Here.

PPS: What does "Notice: "Got Question? Search Forum, then Post Message." -Jon (jdcaples)" in the SprinterBox mean?

It means Jon wants you to Search the Forum before Posting a Message, if you have a question.

And yes, we can change it to something else or somewhere else. I'm just testing it as I have never used the "sticky notice" before.

I think the chat room idea became an information box for me. I don't have to hit the "new post" link every time. Like you said, you certainly can close it if it's too distracting.

Wow, so basically you could really do some damage to peoples' reputation if you wanted too.

The SprinterBox creates a massive power surge for members of type moderator.

Members of type moderator? Yes, I coded this morning.... I should take a walk.

I posted 2 times and never heard a word. Personally a chat room would prove to be very useful especially if it was monitored by a mechanic or someone with knowledge of sprinters not someone who would need to check and get back. I use to own a 2004 GMC Sierra 2500HD diesel and their chat rooms were awesome. I do not belong any longer because someone decided to total my truck.
These are my suggestions hope they make sense and a chat room will be created.

Thank you
