Default Grinding Sound from Engine...?

Hey all, my 2007 Sprinter just started acting up. The engine doesn't sound super healthy and its not showing any codes.

It's hard to explain, but it sort of sounds like its grinding, or gurgling a little bit. Occasionally it'll go away but it sticks around most of the time. It thought it might be low oil but I topped it off and still sounds weird. Could it be dirty oil?

I took a few videos of the engine tonight to see if it rings any bells on here.

I'll probably take it to the shop in the next week or so when I can find some time. However, if I could troubleshoot the issue on here before then, that would be splendid.

Thanks in advance!

You may be better off taking it immediately or not driving until itís determined if this is a serious issue. On the other hand, it could be so serious that a new engine is needed.

I've done some quick research and maybe it is something to do with timing chain / some pulleys or vacuum pump?

maybe sounds like this?

Thanks for the warning but I am not driving this until fixed.

It is easy to have the belts and pulleys diagnosed. better sooner than later.

I was able to get an appointment today and they said it was a failing ac compressor pulley. Sounds reasonable but if anyone thinks otherwise it would be great to hear

So I will need to replace the AC compressor and perform a full refrigerant evacuation. Also will change the belts. Anyone have experience with this DIY?

Unfortunately the shop doesn't take customer supplied parts and the AC compressor they quoted is $700+ more than I have found. 3 hour job for them so I'm assuming 6-10 hours for me with the right tools.

I'm not exactly sure what to do about the refrigerant evac.

Thanks!
