I have used this same key for years with out EVER a problem??The Tech. at the dealer erased all the codes and re-entered them...That solved the problem for now....But he could not explaine WHY??????I would VERY MUCH appreciate any Feedback any of you can provide..Maybe this will help OTHERS also..Very Kind Regards,,02Sprinter:b ash:

Don't you have any extra keys? Did all the keys not work?

Start error is one of my worries with my Sprinter since I live in a remote place and getting it to a Sprinter dealer is out of the question.

Yes,I do have a spare.I had it Programed at the dealer right after I bought my 02Sprinter and have used it several times and it worked evry time,,,,EXCEPT this time!!Neither one would work until the dealer tech. erased all the codes and re-entered them,,,NOW,they BOTH work fine??? After a $200.00 tow AND $200.00 service charge!!! Apparently,it was NOT the keys??Soooo,,??Regards,,02Sprinter

Generally speaking, determining root cause of a failure is often sacraficed in favor of quiescing the immediate crisis.

Specifically, erasing and re-entering the info makes it impossible to know what went wrong. Figuring out the why is not always economically (or emotionally) feasible.

Unfortunately, not knowing why means not knowing why it won't happen to you again.

Even if it happens again, the dealership may opt for trying to fix it quickly and cheaply by swapping out parts - assuming they remember that erasing and re-entering was tried and didn't prove to be a durable fix.
