Default Shell rotella 5w-40 at home Depot for $20.

I think this is compatible with the tn1. Is this a good deal?

Good price!
For comparison, OíReilly Auto Partís has a gallon for $29.99 and a 2-1/2 gallon jug for $69.99

That's a good price, although no different than other discount retailers (Walmart price is $19.97 for example.) The only purpose in going to a dedicated auto parts store for commodity items like that is if you want to pay 50% more for the same thing.

From another thread, WalMart is selling Mobil1 at $20 per 5 quart bottle (at least today).
The link posted in that thread (https://sprinter-source.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=77692) was mangled, i'll try to create a good one

(free shipping if you buy two)

I think it is a great price, as T6 is fully synthetic, and assume that is you required spec on back label. However, I think there is some value in using newer spec 229.52, as the lower ash formulas allow for longer change intervals and other improvements that still might benefit the older motor.
