Default Air Lock Tents

We purchased an air lock tent shortly after buying our 2004 Sprinter. We have found it very convenient for camping. Our longest use was for a 2 week camping trip in the Florida Keys. It worked great. The attached tent makes a quasi camper out of our very basic van. Our loft bed is always warm and dry. Being attached, the tent opens up some great living space.

The tent which we purchased is no longer offered. A post by richard cabesa shows that a similar tent is available.

Our tent has a spring pole design. It sets up easily using our own written instructions.

There may be other brands and styles of air lock tents to fit a Sprinter.

I had been thinking about starting a thread about these tents. It draws a lot attention in camp as they seem to be rare in the US

Yes, this is the Kela III Tall model. Floor footprint of tent area is approximately 8'x10'. Breezeway is about 34" wide. They make a couple of larger versions and some are dividable inside.

Another pic

The inflatable pole structure is great and quick to set up. Mrs Cabesa and have it down to about 30 minutes including adding carpet, table, chairs and lantern. About 20 minutes to pack up. Seldom do we use all the extra guide lines provided.

Advantage of the Vango "driveaway" style is just that, you can drive away and it is free standing. You can see in this pic the ground cloth that I had made to close off the breezeway floor to the bottom of the van.
https://photos.smugmug.com/Road-Trip...MG_4722-XL.jpg

The Vango allows us to have a dry, wind free, bug free and sometimes heated (Mr Buddy) space while leaving the bed permanently set up in the van

The Vango quality seems top notch and well thought out. We have used it about 50 nights so far and have had no zipper or other issues.

One complaint I do have is that the door from the breezeway is not directly across from the slider opening, it's to the rear. I have found out since purchacing that they do make a US/Canada appropriate version though they are not imported here. Maybe Canada???

One other item is that La Cajita (our van) is 2wheel drive with the taller tires and the height just barely works. A 4x4 may not but I have an idea for any 4x4 owners that may be interested

Happy camping!

Still thinking about this after seeing and meeting you at NorCal Sprinter Campout. But for sure would have to modify to accommodate the height of the 4x4 with big wheels. Love the drive-away feature!

Remind me who I met, fifteen vans, fifteen screen names, 30 people and my 70's addled brain I know I had a good time and met great people there though

My thought for taller vans is to use a canvas shop to replicate the attachment strip to accommodate the change in height. It is a simple canvas strip with rope sewn in each edge

Another issue even for mine is that the rear upper corner of the sliding door rubs on the tent cloth when in motion. I had two concerns, 1- it was rubbing the paint off the door. 2- it could eventually damage the tent. I came up with this to hopefully prevent the damage to both

Broader surface should help save the tent and it definitely keeps the tent off the paint

I picked up the Vango Kela III from Amazon for only $200 as soon as I saw Richard's pics, finally unpacked it today. Very impressed with the quality, even includes a rubber mallet for the stakes. I'm 6'5, and have plenty of head room inside. I have teenage kids, this is a perfect solution for my family so I can seat & sleep 4 comfortably.

However, the low version clears the side door but the connector is snug to reach the roof on my '02 tall- I'm resolving by picking up a $20 aluminum awning rail and going to mount it just over the slider drip rail. The included pump with both a pressure gauge and deflate ability is also a plus, was able to take the tent down & put it back in the original bag without any trouble.

Amazon seems to have some tents which would airlock to a Sprinter.

Vango Galli RSV Screen House (Low or Tall Model)
Inflatable air beam support design.
https://www.amazon.com/Galli-Tall-Aw.../dp/B01LYSK3IZ

Vango 6 Person Tunnel Farnham 600 Tent, Blue
Spring poles.
https://www.amazon.com/Vango-Person-.../dp/B01LB0N7O8

Vango 5 (4?) Person Tunnel Farnham 500 Tent, Blue
Spring poles.
https://www.amazon.com/Vango-Person-.../dp/B01LB0N7PM

Vango Cruz Screen House (Low or Tall option)
Inflatable air beam support design.
https://www.amazon.com/Vango-Cruz-Sc.../dp/B01LZ487H6

The inflatable beam design gets good reviews for ease of setup.

I ordered this, https://www.ebay.com/itm/Busvorzelt-...o/253776082878

While not the high version, the peak to rain lip (220 cm) is exactly a horizontal flap. The seller said it works.

I am not sure what the inner tent option is.
Anyone?
Its not on ebay.

The seller is willing upgrading it to to the high version & also the inner kit w/ carpet. Should I want the kit?
Anyone?

BTW Kela: many reviews on amazon say their's are knockoffs of the Galli.
