If memory serves the cargo/car deck is locked down while underway. No passengers allowed. You will have the option of a seat in one of the public areas, or you can book a cabin if you wish.

There's a couple of decks that look like this...or you can hire a 'deck chair' which is in a locked off area and much like a plane seat...or a cabin which is what we had for the night time crossing. There's also food and cinemas. It takes about 9 hrs.

back in the ACT (which currently has a similar number of cases as Tassie)

As of Monday morning, total confirmed cases — based on a tally of numbers provided by health authorities in each state and territory — stands at 1549. There are 669 in New South Wales, 355 in Victoria, 259 in Queensland, 100 in South Australia, 120 in Western Australia, 22 in Tasmania, 19 in the Australian Capital Territory and five in the Northern Territory.
