Sprinters are owned by ChryslerVans, LLC in North America. MB-USA, LLC(Mercedes-Benz) owns the policies that govern MB dealerships and "authorized" MB warehouse, depots, and MB-certified service or parts businesses.

I gave the MB part number of a hose to an MB parts supplier in New Jersey, just to see what the price diff was between Dodge and MB.

I received a phone call from the parts business owner. I was told the MB would not allow him to supply a Sprinter-specific part to me and he could lose his "authorization," if he ordered it and managed to get it past the MB Gestapo, some how.

Anyway, he also said that he could make a fine living selling Sprinter parts to fleets in NYC, but he was forbidden to do so.

I asked the dealer who made that ridiculous rule and the answer was, "Dr. Z."

Personally, I think MBUSA,LLC made that rule and tells everyone in America it's part of their license to sell German vehicles in the US.....but no one can prove it. MB-USA, LLC is not a publically owned company (no stock trading symbol), you and I can't have dialog with the MB-USA,LLC management as a shareholder and they "owe" no disclosure to their customers.

Congratulations on your parts purchase, bblessing. I'm looking forward to pictures of your ride.

Brian,
I know language wise it's easier to order from the UK, but isn't US Dollar to Euro exchange better than US Dollar to UK Pound? Also you shouldn't have to pay VAT, since it is for export. Nice list of stuff.

My company sends a fair number of employees to the UK every year. Technically, any US employee that pays VAT can get it back from the UK by filling out a form. I was told, but don't have any experience, that over seas buyers will pay VAT upfront, but are technically entitled to it if they fill out the paperwork. The last form I saw was only a page, so it's not like a big effort for the return of funds. You might have to work a little for it, though. I believe merchants are required to fork it over w/o delay.

Bruce,

I purchased the trailer brake connector parts from a local Mercedes dealer. The part numbers are the same but with an A in the beginning.

A039 545 35 28 Housing 1 pc
A046 545 40 28 0.75 mm wire pin 1 pc
A035 545 74 28 2.5 mm wire pin 3 pcs

When I called them they had this exact quantity in stock and they cost me just under $20 with tax, so I guess I paid about double what you will. Plug and play though.

One of the parts guys thought the van was pretty cool and he was really helpful. He even helped me find connectors so I could add more fuses in the factory fuse panel, ordered them and then sold them to me at a discount. After I had a part # it turns out that I could get them from Dodge, but the Dodge parts guys couldn’t help finding a part #. I was glad to get the fuse terminals.

We had a pretty big discussion about the trailer brake controller installation in NCV3 Talk a few months back. You were there!!

yes i used those part numbers when i spoke to my local dealer, and the parts guy said he could get them and it would be $23 usd. so i told him to order them up. when i called two weeks later they couldn't find any record of an order for me. maybe the parts guy just blew me off. for the shipping on just the connector parts from london, it would have probably pushed the price up closer to the 20 dollar mark. but since i am ordering a box full of stuff, it just made sense to add that to my order.

hey unimog, let me know how well that camera works when you step on the brakes. i surmise one of the reasons the backup camera was deleted in the north american market is because of the third brake light. they don't have them in europe. i am very curious to see, so keep us posted.
