Default 2019 Sprinter Exterior First Impressions

Wanted to check out the new face in person. The dealer was closed so just peaked around. Here are some observation.

1. These 2 vans were made in Germany based on their vin numbers starting with “W” and documentation.

2. The seal around the windshield is missing and looks “unfinished”

3. The rear wheel arches could be mistaken for a Ford Transit

4. The hood grill has some mesh added that looks of very questionable quality as the strands are bent on an undelivered vehicle.

5. Webasto is now the supplier replacing Eberspacher. The big muffler gave it away.

6. Rear trailer package looks like now includes the plug into which the trailer lights actually plug into, and not an intermediary plug.

Excellent snooping. The bug screens in the engine hood louvers would quickly be clogged by small seeds from trees near my home.

I just ordered a 2019 Mercedes Sprinter yesterday. We use it for our band touring the South Eastern US and fly to shows on the west coast and Asia. This will replace our 2012 Sprinter Passenger van with high roof and 170" 12-seater.

I ordered the high roof 170" 15 seater and we will remove a row of seats and move the last row up one row to seat 12. (they do not offer a 170" 12 seat version, only 15 seat)
Ours will be built in South Carolina.

Here are the specs:
Exterior Colour: 3589 Jupiter red
Interior: VF6 Artico Man-Made Leather Black
Wheels: RS3 6.5 J x 16 steel wheels
E00Z Chrome Grill Package
E01Z Exterior Lighting Package
F00Z Driver Convenience Package
F01Z Premium Package
F02Z Premium Plus Package
P00Z Rear Comfort Package
P01Z Rear Comfort Package
P02Z Passenger Accessibility Package
S00Z Comfort Package
S01Z Comfort Plus Package
X00Z High-Performance Rear Air Conditioning Package
B25 Electric parking brake
EE3 115 V socket
ES5 Charging package, dashboard
JB6 Parking Package with 360 degree camera
RF8 Tire Brand Michelin
RM9 Specially requested tires
T75 Door-mounted assist handles, driver & passenger
W54 Rear doors, opening to side wall
Y10 First-aid kit
Y45 Emergency flashlight

Basically, it is fully loaded. Due to the backlog of Amazon Sprinter orders, we will probably not receive it until April or May 2019. The dealer is working on locking down a production date.

I have done a TON of research on the 2019 Sprinters and have owned a 2012 for almost 7 years. If you have any questions, I have probably already asked them.

150w 115V

EE3 115 V Socket
Compared to Sprinter 906
Carry Over Advanced New
The 115-V socket is located in the lower part of the center console and serves to power small electrical
devices with an output of up to 150 W, such as mobile phones, cordless electric screwdrivers, laptops,
or flashing lights. The system is comprised of a DC/AC-converter with overvoltage protection and a
power socket. The socket is only supplied with power if a plug is recognized. For vehicles without additional
battery, the power socket is functional via the KEYLESS-START power supply when the ignition is
set to position 1. Vehicles with an additional battery have a run-on function that allows for devices to
be charged for up to four hours after the engine has been turned off. A light on the socket indicates
when it is operating.

Is it me, or do the side mirrors look smaller on the ‘19? If so, I wouldn’t be happy about that. I like visibility.

I am not a fan of the rear wheel arches. I like the current generation with the plastic molding on the wheel arches. Better protecting from road debris , scratches Etc. Looks way too plain wish they would have kept the exterior the same as the 2018 model! I do like the changes to the interior and drivetrain. Please bring back jasper blue Metallic!

I agree with you about the molding.
You could buy the Terrawagen fender kit

Has anyone seen any cd comparisons '18 to '19? I saw a left over '18 parked exactly along side a '19. Seems the '19 with the Metris front is more curvy than the '18.
The '18 mirrors 12" x 6". The '19 mirrors 11" x 5 1/2".
The gaps on front doors and sliders are smaller on the '19. The leading edges of the front doors tuck in behind the A-Pillar; these changes should reduce wind noise.
Front mud flaps on '19 are 1" smaller, however the '19 rear mud flaps are 1" larger then '18.
The distinguished horizontal indentation starting at the front doors extending back around the rear doors and taillights on the '18 is now just a crease to the back lights.
The taillights mostly red on '19
The rear camera mount on the '19 protrudes less now with more stout appearance.
I like the dash better on the '18, but I admit that dash could not fit the optional infotainment options of the '19. I like the '19 doors better to the flat arm rest.
I love the '19 shifter way better, but it's the same as my Metris so maybe just because I am already used to it...
Love the '19 steering and tranny - but these are also similar to my Metris. I have Not driven any other prior Sprinters.
Rear wheel well moldings missing on '19; but I also know rust forms behind moldings around wheel arches.
