Default Manual rear door latch

I removed the inside rear door handle to fit new panels. Pulled the handle off to the right, removed the two T30 screws.

Now that I've reattached it to the van, it won't lock or unlock from the inside, nor will the handle open the door. There is very little resistance when I move the inside handle.

The outside handle works fine, and I can lock it with the key.

Not sure where to start. Anyone have pictures of how the cable is supposed to be connected? I'm assuming that the cable has slipped off somewhere. I can never find the link to the service manual when I need it!

2006 service manual: http://diysprinter.co.uk/reference/2006-VA-SM.pdf

There are also a bunch of "subsystem" manuals there (http://diysprinter.co.uk/reference/ ) too.

Here’s the guts.

You can see where the cable enters upper right. I can operate the lever on the right to lock and unlock.

But the inside lever does not do anything. Any suggestions?

If I unbolt it, will the mechanism stay togéther?

I’ve messed around with a lot of locks/latches. Having everything in the correct possible during assembly is very important. Watching what needs to move for each action to take place is also part of the process, lots of light, lots of observation, the puzzle is revealed.

OK, sans advice just removed the three T30 screws and pulled it down and out. Probably not worthy of a “Write Up.” I’d guess the same assembly is used for owner locks.

The cable had come loose. There is a plastic keeper (yellow arrow) that holds it in place. Think when I twisted the inside assembly to get it off it popped it open.

To reinstall, the lever at top has to go between the outside of the door and the outer latch. It slides in, not difficult.
