I wouldn't reduce it to a nuisance, but so far it doesn't seem unmanageable for the industrialized nations. It is a novel virus.

An issue could be that the numbers of infected could overwhelm even our medical systems.

One concern that I have is that there may be some longer term effects after recovery. Of course it is too early to really tell. There can't be any data yet.

Another concern for me is that age over 60 years old raises the risk number for possible death, but I can't do anything about that. Another negative factor is said to be cigarette smoking. I never smoked so I've got that going for me.

The media will concentrate on the death toll. They will also be quick to jump and criticize as not good enough any response by any government. that isn't helpful in my opinion. Then there's social media and the unsubstantiated information which flows like water.

About 1000 people have died of this virus so far, most of them have been in China.

In contrast, this is what the CDC website says about the common old Influenza flu:

Similarly for deaths caused by smoking, the CDC says:

Those figures are for the United States alone.

In proper context, the Coronavirus seems like a nuance rather than a major immediate threat. Does it not? Have I missed something obvious?

Exactly, it is a a question, not an answer, that was posted a month ago. Will it be the next big pandemic? We don't know? So far there is no vaccine, at least for us little people that are in the way of globalists.

Do you really trust the CDC, or other sources of information?

It is still a smoking gun, only time will tell.........

Yes the issue of trust (or lack there of) in information sources (media, corporations, leaders, individuals, and even public organizations such as the CDC) is omnipresent.

Every individual and organization carries with them their biases (psychological, financial and political), as well as competing goals. It is not to say that everyone is hypocritical or dishonest. Simply that a rational person needs to do a bit (sometimes a little, sometimes a lot) of work to get to the truth.

I find that asking questions often helps in demystifying the above-mentioned biases and goals. For example:

What biases and goals do various media outlets have for the way they cover the cornovirus outbreak?

What biases and goals do various western media have for the way they cover outbreaks (or other topic) in non-western countries?

What biases and goals do US media have specifically when covering topics related to China?

And the many more and varied questions which can be asked and answered would hopefully peel layers on an onion so to speak to get to focused kernels of truth.

And of course this mindset of approaching complex topics with skepticism could be useful in other polarizing topics such as Climate Change too.

There is some indication that existing anti-flu medications are helpful in minimizing your response to or if catching Covid-19.
They should be started if someone you've been in contact with gets Covid-19, even if you're not showing symptoms yet.
If you are starting to show symptoms, pounce on it, preferably within the first two days.

In the US, the current four anti-viral drugs are:
oseltamivir phosphate (available as a generic version or under the trade name Tamiflu®),
zanamivir (trade name Relenza®)
peramivir (trade name Rapivab®), and.
baloxavir marboxil (trade name Xofluza®).

My favorite anti flu, anti virus, anti cold prevention after I have been exposed to a sick person is, Berberine, Oregano oil, and Wild Bears garlic. I take it for about 4 days to kill anything that may have got into my system. If I get sick, I take it longer.

Not that anyone asked...

I find that these two YouTube sources stay with the facts. I particularly like Dr. John Campbell from the UK. His approach is data based.

His newest video. I have yet to view it, but I'm sure it's fine.

He does start off with some facts, but ventures off to opinions... a similar method to what the news media networks employ.

Passengers stranded on Japan cruise due to coronavirus plead for help from Trump

Passengers Milena Basso and her husband Gaetano Cerullo are calling for help from President Trump after being trapped on a Diamond Princess cruise ship off the coast of Japan with at least 61 positive cases of coronavirus; Fox News correspondent Bryan Llenas reports.

Japanese health officials, along with Princess Cruises, have announced an additional 44 positive cases of the COVID-19 — previously known as the novel coronavirus — among passengers aboard the quarantined Diamond Princess cruise ship docked in Yokohama.
