Default Where's the day/night sensor?

Hey guys,

In trying to connect my 2014 Winnebago Via's (2013 3500 chassis) radio backlight wire into the Sprinter Chassis' instrument cluster brightness control, I think I've found that this vehicle is always in "nighttime" mode when the ignition is on, meaning that the cluster's main display is dimmed, and all of the dash lighting is always on. My suspicion is that the factory day/night sensor used to be where the rear-view mirror should be, had this not been a conversion to an RV. Having had the dash open recently, I could see several unused connectors at the top of the dash on the passenger side - maybe one of these went to the rear-view/day/night sensor. I'm thinking I could get a used module somewhere and reconnect it, placing it somewhere that it would still see daylight.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I believe the day/night sensor is part of the rain sensor. I bought a 2007 used van and they replaced the front windshield and never re-installed the sensor. Once I put that sensor back on the auto headlights worked.

Hey Zither, sorry for the extremely slow response - didn't know I had to subscribe to my own thread to get reply notifications.

Anyway, is your rain sensor part of the rear view mirror mount? Where is it located on your vehicle?

On my 2017 the day/night sensor and the rain sensor are at the center of the top of the windshield I believe, in a protrusion that the inside rear-view mirror mounts onto.
