Default PIAA LED Headlight Bulbs - worth it?

Ok, due to popular demand I will produce the goods.

The Sprinter is currently in the backyard stuffed full of stand up paddleboards. Don't ask, we do certain things to stay married!

I will run the van out on to the street at night and take some photos of the lights with only halogen headlights and with PIAA LEDs too. We live on a dark street. Also can do daytime shots of the light placement. Installation of PIAA LEDS is very simple as they draw minimal current and don't need relays or fuses.

Hang tight and I will post ASAP.

Ok, here are some photos from my 2006 T1. Mounting the PIAA Led lamps in the footwells on the front bumper was super easy. Then I show a sequence of shots: 1. Simple low beams 2. Low beams + PIAA 3. High beams (which is actually four bulbs, the lows plus highs) and the LEDs. The LEDs are on a separate circuit that I control from the dash. Sorry but I think the file is too big and I could not shrink it down - I will need to take another photo. It is a basic toggle switch - nothing magic.

Note that the low beams are halogens - something ordered off the Interwebs, I have no idea what brand. They are adequate for around town, but I almost always run the low beams + the LEDs on the highway. FWIW, the PIAA LEDs cost about $400 USD. Worth every penny to me as I live in an area with a lot of deer. Hence the roo bar...

Just looked at the reviews for the H1 from the same company, not as impressive. The positive reviews were gibberish, the 4 star reviews indicate it is only slightly better than standard H1. I might get some anyway as I do not like my high beams much, every year they get dimmer ;)
How are these lights working out for you now that you've had them in for a while? I'm looking to order a pair. Thanks

They work fine, havenít really thought about them. One of them started to flicker a little at start up and was less bright. I contacted the seller at aliexpress, they sent me a replacement free of charge (arrived in 4-5 days), I still havenít changed in the new one as the old one is good enough for now and Iím busy.

10k miles and nearly two months later, mine are doing fine. Not much in-the-dark running this time of year so itís difficult to judge performance. Mine are DRLs, too.

I just got these this week.

BEAMTECH H7 LED Headlight Bulb, 50W 6500K 8000Lumens Extremely Bright CSP Chips Conversion Kit $36.99

I installed the first one of the pair this morning before work replacing my dead Halogen H7. It is a fanless design with removable installation ring, so it installed easy, and fit nicely in the housing with no modifications needed. Tonight I will compare the brightness between the LED and Halogen, and then I will swap out the second one. I will try to take a few Pictures.

I took some pictures of the bulb installation.

Here is after installing the first bulb showing the difference in color and brightness. LED is on the right. Halogen on the left.

Here are pictures of the steps to install them. These bulbs were nice in having a removable collar so that they went into the bulb holders quite easily.
  1. Unplug and remove the old bulb.
  2. Remove collar from the new bulb.
  3. Insert locking collar into bulb holder and re-attach retaining clip.
  4. Insert new LED bulb into locking collar.
  5. Plug in and test.
