Thanks for all the links to Andy's posts on springs and suspensions. It would be handy reference. Do you know if we have the off road rear springs already? 5118619AA

The way I read Andy's post, the off-road version for passenger vans is just the single leaf used by cargo vans. As we only have the single lear, I'd guess it is the cargo or off-road version.

The aftermarket Roadmaster Active Suspension seems to fit the Westy single rear leaf.

Most Westies have a heavier rear anti-sway bar and our front anti-sway bar is also different than most Sprinters. We also have the heavier duty steel transverse front spring versus the composite one used by most Sprinters. We have the unusual hole in outside sliding door. There may be other surprises too.

By the way, there are aftermarket custom multi-leaf spring replacements with 5 or more layers. I wonder if they'd be a good fix for Westy handling.

So far, I think only one Westy (512Westy) has replaced original spring with a heavier duty custom one plus helper spring. Ohers have added a single additonal leaf or an auxillary/helper leaf.

The 3880 kg is from the 2006-2012 James Cook based on the NCV3 Sprinter.

The T1N Sprinter James Cook (1995-2006) was always rated 3500 kg.

Thanks for confirmation re loads for the James Cook.

Now, Autocamp loves his Airstream Westfalia a lot more with its higher NAFTA 8550 lbs.

Autocamp mentioned different two pot brake calipers for the 15" Sprinters, so the 8550 lbs Sprinters may have more than just a new load sticker.

I think I read somewhere that 3.5t is a magic number in Europe for vehicles. Above that amount, you may need a special license. May only apply to cargo or commercial vehicles.

The various manufacturers may offer a load upgrade from 3.5t to 3.8 or 3.88t (another magic number for some purpose), then another jump up.

Default mini butane stove

I want to say it has been a pleasure to meet new and old JC friends this weekend. Thanks Rob for and Sue for being such great hosts.

I have a few homework. Many folks asked about where to get the mini butane stove I use. I bought mine many years ago so I don't expect you can find the identical one. This one on Amazon is the closest and very reasonably priced.

Since you are likely going to encounter some breeze while using it, I recommend you also get a wind screen too.

Default small french steel pan

I was also asked where to get the small French steel pan that I used. It is a mild steel pan from France. They are sold by many different brands with similar quality and construction. Here is one on Amazon.

mine that I keep in Brunnhilde

If you have more mouth to feed you might want a larger one, but be careful if it will fit in the cabinet as they have generous handle lengths.

May be we are confused gross weight (GVWR) vs net weight. The gross weight (GVWR) of T1N JC is 3,880 kg per this Westfalia price list. The net weight is 3,500 kg.

So looking closer, the price list that I referred to above is for 2006-2012 James Cook based on the NCV3 Sprinter. I mistook Euro 5 as the 5 cylinder engine of the T1N, but I think it is emission classification after some search.
