About 2 years ago I proposed a gathering of 4x4 sprinters at the sculpture park on the oodnadatta track, then after the burning man show on July 4th we could drive across the simpson desert. There was some interest but not enough starters. Perhaps we have more starters now so could try again in 2020. For practical reasons we would have to limit entries to vehicles below or at gvm as getting bogged in the sand is more likely with an overweight van. Eric.

Thanks Eric,
I'd be remotely interested, also in even doing part of the trip whether it be to Birdsville or Mt. Dare. Everyone I know that has done the Simpson says it is fantastic. My last weigh was 3400kg so you'd may as well say almost full GVM. Am I right in thinking that 235/85/16's would be ideal, upspec it from the original roadies on the van now? Most likely BFG AT KO2's. |

Good,4or5 vehicles, should be good,
The owner of the sculpture park is having a bit of trouble with insurance, So we can not expect to see a burn out as he calls it. That means it is up to us to organise some thing ourselves. Could be just a large campfire, it does get cold at night out there. Any suggestions of alternative form of a focus point or bonding event would be welcome. That also frees up the date to meet there. Please let us have your ideas. Eric. |

This post has had no input for 4 months. I am wondering if it is still a good idea. Would someone else like to propose an alternative, perhaps less challenging for those that are a bit unsure? There is a new road just opened called the Balgo tourist road, starts north of Alice, it has sand but not steep dunes, may be better for those a little over weight. Eric.
