Default Paint poll, how is your paint holding up.

I have a 2016 sprinter with 90xxx km onit, now while I take full responsibility for the dents and scrapes inside the van I'm pretty disappointed overall in the factory white paint.

Full disclosure I live on the coast and things rust here, but I really expected better quality for the money on their thin commercial paint.

More so when I talked to other owners that were given the impression that the paint is basically just good enough to last until the 3 year basic warranty is up.

Mine was rusting on the door track right from day 1 , I have some wierd stone chips on the side panels high up that are already going nuclear and I suspect I will have to paint at least one full back section by the end of this year just to maintain some resale value.

I also have what looking like cracking on the painted caulking on lower edges of the doors that's already bleeding orange streaks through.

Curious how others are making out ?

I have a 2011 that is red. The paint is very chalky but seems to be sticking ok. There were many stone chips on the hood and a few rust spots above the windshield along with random spots on the body.

I have tried a few paint restoration tricks but the paint has mostly stayed faded.

In contrast, my 2006 BMW still has glossy paint and I only wash it maybe once every two years. I have only waxed it once as well. I have owned it for 9 years.

My 2016 is holding up fine. I do wash it frequently. Once a week, more in the winter months.

2015 grey looks like new. Spends half the year in Oregon (outside) and the other half in Baja California garaged while not driving. I wash it when dirty, maybe twice a season in Baja and 3 times in Oregon. No rust, no problems, but where there are chips I can tell that the paint is very thin.

2016 Gray is holding up really well. My poor van sits outside in 100+ degree direct sun. I am only willing to wax it once a year because its a PITA.

My staff has difficulty reaching significant portions of the van:

That's where the foam cannon comes in.

The picture does not do it justice, the paint has great depth to it.

I recommend a Terrawagen front hood deflector to keep rock chips off the leading edges of the hood.

My Jet Black 2015 is also showing a chalky appearance. I have it professionally detailed and it shines nice, but quickly chalks back up again requiring a lot of maintenance in between.

2015 Graphite grey Metallic 7759 : Still great even after four years of harsh Québec winters and warm summers! No rust, clear is holding. Waxed once a year.

My 2014 Artic White paint is holding up well. Van lives outside near the beach but is washed and waxed regularly. No sign of rust and paint is still shiny.

2013, metallic black. Washed a couple times a year. Last wax was 2+ years ago. The only problems are typical use issues - parking lot dents and dings, a rock chip on the hood, a long scratch down the side - likely another parking lot issue. One small spot of rust on the roof that I really should address. Nothing at all down low. Left outside every day since I've owned it. No idea about its first 3 years of life.

Reading the thread, one might wonder if the premium paints are more than just pretty colors.
