Our goal was to deter an attempt to break into our van rather than alert when glass is broken, door compromised, etc. Our solution/approach is a bit different from others I’ve researched.
Our van has two things that makes this solution possible, WiFi and an Air Horn plus Reolink Argus 2 (wireless w/ solar panel charging) wifi cameras showing the possible entry points.

If a camera “sees” a “warm body” (PIR sensor) within 10-15 feet of the van, I receive an alert on my phone. I can look at the live stream to see if “he/she/it” look suspicious or if one if the cameras was disabled. Granted, 99% will be curious people, animals, etc., but if warranted I can send a signal to sound the Air Horn. The horn is controlled by a wifi “inching relay” (parallels the horn button) that “makes” for ½ second. I can resend/honk repeatedly if they linger but suspect one 150db honk will do the trick.

If we are away from the van; hiking (as long as my phone/van has a 4G signal) we are covered. The PIR sensor can be disabled (via app) during the day if false alerts become an annoyance. I assume most bad things happen at night, and false alerts at night should not be a problem.
Oh, and if you are a thief and reading this for scouting/nefarious reasons, we also have a 60 lb "good boy" who travels with us and sleeps in the van. If you make it into the van, the air horn will be the least of your problems.
