Hi. 2004 2.7L Sprinter 2400.
I recently removed and repaired a wear spot on my engine wiring harness. The wear had been causing a long-standing issue with loss of boost/turbo. I may write up a small report on that later.
On the far passenger-side, 2 wires descend from the top of the engine: one is the wiring for the turbo actuator, and one is a simple electrical connection to the back of the alternator. The connection to the alternator is a metal ring that fits over a threaded stud on the alternator and is held in place by a 8mm nut.
The question is, what does this connection do? Is it a ground connection for something? Provide power? etc..
I ask because when I re-tightened the nut, the threaded stud broke off. I can't see a way to repair it besides replacing the alternator, other than perhaps a light solder. However, the vehicle runs fine even without this connection, so I'm trying to assess the necessity and priority of this repair.
Thanks!
