I am working offshore as soon as i get home i will install new filters as you advise and let you know the result...Just one thing i was planning on installing a low pressure in line fuel pump near the tank.Your thoughts?

Hi Rod :)
Why ? Seems like solving a problem that should not exist ! If there is a problem then address that directly. If you have an air leak then putting fuel pressure on it means you will have a fuel leak. Your model has a simple lift pump on the side of the old style injection pump I believe. You could look at it and see if it needs new valves, or something but really they normally last for a very long time.
I did send you a PM. Perhaps if you are unfamilar with forums you may not have set up for them or noticed the notification up at the top right near your user name.
Cheers jaahn

Yes Rod that is the same filter as mine.
I would be looking at the oring on the top of the central bolt, as a first guess. Possibly past usage or been broken or damaged.
Good luck Jaahn
PS I have purchased some ones now with a water drain that were recommended for harsh conditions.

Hi Rodney :)
Did you get round to doing the filter and did it solve the problem ?
For anybody with an early pre CDI T1N that is interested. I have ordered (and received) some Mahle KC87D OE Fuel Filters with a water drain tap fitted. These were optional on diesel Mercs back in the day when current, and I think they are a good idea if you go out of the city limits and buy fuel. I found some on ebay UK. The filters are cheap, the freight is a bit more but overall not dear. Cheers :)
