Default Adelaide Sprinter Mechanic.

Does anyone know a good Sprinter mechanic in Adelaide? I've got a water leak somewhere above the alternator. Can't really see where it's coming from but it has a fast running drip when the engine is running.

I would suspect that your water pump is weeping. If so, probably a good idea to check/change all the other pulleys, belt tensioner and serpentine belt at the same time.
Last year, I had the oil heat exchanger replaced at :

Not cheap, but you do get free coffee and a newspaper !
They are located pretty close to Vanworks too.
By the way, are you gunna continue your Blog ?

Thanks - I'll probably contact one of them in the morning.

I'll be going home on Sunday all being well so there's nothing much to put in my blog. However I do write a column in GoRV every month - often with my friend Murphy playing sadistic tricks on Yemmy. www.gorv.com.au and I'm often on Facebook - again with Yemmy's troubles often taking up room. https://www.facebook.com/lionel.mussell.

When the fanbelt broke recently the radiator boiled and I suspect it could have weakened hoses etc. I'll have a better look in the morning.

I really just want to make it driveable to get from Semaphore Park to Stawell and from there to Eric as I'm having a few auto box problems as well - flaring between gears if I use too much throttle and sometimes going into LHM. Stopping, turning off the engine and restarting after a couple of minutes and it's fine for many kms. I've just driven fron Atherton across the Barkly and then down to the Alice on my way to Adelaide. (Did Alice to Adelaide in two days - 1,530km

I took Yemmy to a local repair shop to save driving to the one's recommended that were quite a way from where I'm staying at my son's place. It wasn't a water leak at all - it was the diesel pump and I'm waiting for a ring telling me how much it will be. (I'll be sitting down!) They seem quite knowledgeable and helpful. I wondered why Yemmy was so thirsty driving down the Stuart Hwy but put in down to the strong winds.

My van is almost the same as yours Lionel, and Yep my pump started leaking at about 430k. All it was were the 3 bolts that hold the pump together from the back. They were totally loose. You have to remove the pump to get access to these bolts. Eric loctited mine in and it has been fine ever since.

So before you get stitched up for a new pump, get them to check those bolts. Its a tough call because you are having to trust these people to do the right thing, rather than line their pockets at your expense.

...... and the good news is that it's not the pump and he's just waiting for two 'O' rings to come from Melbourne. The other two 'O' rings and something else he's sourced from MB Adelaide and Yemmy will be ready on Monday. He seems a great bloke and his business is Complete Auto in Peterhead.

Those pumps also sometimes leak from head cap O-rings. Not too hard to replace on the bench, and much cheaper than a new pump.
