Where to stay in the District of Columbia?

No personal knowledge of camping in or near DC. Have only flown-in.
DC is usually hot and humid in August. Thankfully, the Smithsonian museums are free so you can duck in and out to get air conditioning. May be worthwhile to do a bus tour of some of the attractions as too hot and humid to walk from one to the next.
Some weblinks below. Blogs seem to suggest that Union garage sounds like a good bet for parking during day and overnight (not camping) amd is close to attractions (may still want to take bus/shuttle). Or can stay at a campground and take bus tours into DC (or Metro/other transportation) into DC.

2. Campgrounds
Cherry Hill has its own tours of DC and sells tickets to other tours. Supposed to have convenient access to transportation to DC. But is the most expensive campground.
Other campgrounds may offer shuttle or other transportation to DC.

Peter is the administrator of the Westfalia (campervan) James Cook Friends Forum. http://forum.james-cook-freunde.de/
And has transported his NCV3 James Cook from Germany for touring around the USA (that NCV3 James Cook version is not available in USA) and meeting various Westy folks. I think this is his third Westfalia tour around the US in the last few years.
HKPierce is the wonderful source of much advice on Sprinters, and many Sprinter write-ups, including all the important maintenance. I keep a paper copy of his maintenance write-ups in my T1N Westy (oil change, fuel filter change, etc.).

There you got me. I just looked for DC and missed that. Now we stay at Cherry Hill and use the laundry.

Cherry Hill RV park and take the metro into the mall. Last year I stayed in Alexandra VA and parked during the day at Walmart or Home Depot. Overnight parking in most cities around DC is against local laws. They want to collect that bed Tax.
There is a Sam's Club in Dulles that will let you over night and a Sam's club in Gaithersburg that allow it but you will have a long Metro ride into the City plus you have to take a bus or Uber to the Metro station. Metro stations do not have parking for oversize trucks. I also was told you can park in the bus parking at the central train station in DC but I did not want to chance that. DC is not RV friendly.

Cherry Hill RV park is quite safe and has a few people around when i was there 1 year ago
