turn signals not working

i have a 03 dodge freightliner sprinter, the turn signals stopped working a few weeks ago, then started the next day, then yesterday and still today they do not work, just a buzzing sound under the dash, can you guys give me some advice as to what it may be?

Start with exactly what Mendosy said and if that doesn't work than you will have to look a bit deeper such as the assembly the wipers and signal and cruise all go into. Thats what my problem was all the crap falls into that space through the hazard light hole and getting that assembly all full of junk. There is also a post somewhere about the fuse box needing a solder repair that if it happens can gives your symptoms.

I had the same problem a few weeks ago. Figured it was a bad turn signal relay.
When I got to the relay in the fuse area under the steering wheel, I noticed it had popped out just enough to be disconnected.
I just pushed it back in and it has worked no problem since. Hopefully that's all you'll have to do.

where would the turn signal relay be located at on the vehicle and about how much do they cost??

Had the same problem, the flasher was bad and replaced it and all was good with the world again. It is located at the bottom side of the fusebox under the steering wheel ( closest to the firewall ). The flasher relay is one of a couple of relays that are all small and rectangular and located just below the fuses.its a cheap fix unlike most fixes on the Sprinters.

there is one right beside that is the same thing you can swap and narrow down the problem instantly!
I think the one you're referring to beside it is the Engine Control Relay. If you swap out the relays and then your turn signal works, but your engine doesn't start... you've definitely isolated down the problem.

Just kidding. :hugs:

Swapping the relays is a good method. Keep in mind that in swapping them it may re-establish (heal) poor connections in the fuse block #1 relay connector stabs so the "questionable" relay may still be OK.

There have been quite a few postings about the Fuse Block #1 connection methods getting loose from piggy-back fuses, wearing out, etc. The poor solder connection issues seem less prevalent, but worth checking closely. Given the rather large dimensions and open design of the Fuse Block #1 circuit traces, repair to bad solder joints should be a fairly straight-forward process. vic

As always this Sprinter forum saves the day. Just one question about turn signal relay...easy fix except no one in St. louis stocks the part...I have no turn signals until the part comes in. Auto Zone rep suggested " exchange it with the hazard light relay since your hazard lights are working." I tried to locate a seperate but identical hazard relay to no success. Is it the same relay? If so why did my turn signals quit and my hazards remain working? Thanks for your helpful contributions to the Sprinter-Source forum.

The lights are actually controlled by the electronics behind the fuse box, not the relay, it only provides the power to the lights. The relay is a standard mini relay as far as I know.

I had this problem. With the fuse cover removed and the turn signal on trying pushing fuse for the turn signals. You should be able to feel it vibrate when the signal goes waunky ( very rapid flashing. It seems to be a poor connection with the fuse.

St.Louis is big place, some one has it, you just need to ask in a different way. That relay is in a bunch of MBZ models. Try asking for one of these applications:

The 2003 service manual (and parts catalog) is available at the diysprinter site.
The manual is confusingly named 05_service_manual. Here: http://www.diysprinter.co.uk/reference/05 service manual.pdf
It's also part of the complete diagnostic CD package: http://www.diysprinter.co.uk/reference/2003SprinterManuals.zip
... and the parts catalog is: http://www.diysprinter.co.uk/reference/03va-parts manual.pdf
... which uses Dodge part numbers, so you'll want the Chrysler-to-MB cross reference: http://www.diysprinter.co.uk/reference/Chry_to_MB_parts.pdf

Chapter/section 8W-52 of the service manual covers the turn signal schematics. (5 pages of drawings, 1 page of index)

There are three relays involved for the turn signals: one "common" one, and then one for each side.
The "common" relay is on/under Fuse Block #1 (under the steering column), and the two individual relays are among the hordes under the driver's seat. Their location may not match the layout on the service manual's page 8W-11-3

My window washer fluid stopped pumping so I recently pulled the window washer motor, and fuse from under the steering wheel fuse block. Could this be the reason I have no turn signals at this point? -Dana

:idunno:

Re-install the fuse and see what happens.

Thanks for the tip checking fuse 6 and 9, it was 6 that caused the problem. About 3 weeks ago I took the windshield washer motor out and somehow it blew the fuse #6 under the steering wheel. Put a new one in and it fixed the problem.

Quick question, I can't find the new thread button anywhere, can someone help me. I would like to post a new question.

At the top of the page, click on the sub-forum name ((1), below)

That will open the list of threads in this/that sub-forum, and provides the New Thread button. ((2))
