Nice. I've been using the BattleBorns in my new van for the last year+. They are mounted underside. I came across them at a Reno area business awards dinner about two years ago and happy to see their progress. I stop by their factory in Reno about every six months to say hello. Really good guys. Their product has been working great for me. The specs show that that there is really only a slower charge rate below freezing but not limitations to discharge so what's your thinking about the insulation around the batteries?

Hoping to be up your way to stop in and say hello in the next few weeks. The possibility of a few mug adds motivation to finish the van project and get on the road!

It would be possible to light up any or all of the 8020 used.
Bought the clear snap in cover for the bottom/front extrusion of the overhead cabinets that already had LED strip lighting installed.

Did not work for the brand of LED strip lighting that I have installed. Could not push the strip into place because of interference with the LED light strip. So clear cover does not work with all LED light strips. Must work with some brands of light strips but not all.

Went to see my buddies at Discount Tire in Gresham, OR to have new wheels and tires installed.

I have a set of Alcoa wheels to sell locally. The tires are still on them because tread is not worn out but there was a minimal amount of weather cracking on the sidewall near the tread. I'm not one to take chances on tires. Inside rears are mounted on OEM steel wheels so would prefer to receive a set of those in trade so we don't have to dismount.

All the best,
Hein

P.S. Another shot with the van back in the driveway.

I wish I trusted my discount tire to do anything....

Those are cool looking rims. Last time I check out the Discount Tire rims for my 2500, the max weight for a rim that fit was right at the top of allowable limits. I backed away from the upgrade.

Back in the day I used Sears to shoe and warranted my one ton delivery trucks tires. Sears let me down twice. Switch to the one and only Discount Tire, within 70 miles. One of my drivers had a rock damaged sidewall-dully tire late on a Saturday evening after Discount closed. I called the store manager asking for help. Monday morning the driver picked up his truck from their parking lot before the store opened and went on his route with a replacement tire mounted and balanced. The Discount manager had been promoted off the tire rack to his well earned position. I still take about Discount Tires great service 30 years later. Always got a military discount at Discount Tire.

Hello Hein,

I just purchased your feet attachments for the fiamma awning feet. How important is it to sand the gloss off the paint? Also, I assume I just use the screws your provided and not any of the hardware from fiamma.

Thanks
Joe

I rubbed concentrated 99% isopropyl alcohol, waited until completely dry and then attached the feet, put some hand pressure for a couple of minutes. In warm weather 90% of VHB strength will be obtained after 24 hours, full strength after 74 hours. So, it is best to wait before inserting awning’s legs. I did mine in 2017 and had no problems.

George's advice is great. There is no need to sand or scratch the paint. De-glossing it with a mild scotchbrite pad isn't even essential. Just make sure there is no residual wax on it. Then use the screws we provide.

All the best,
Hein

Re: 2010 3500 RV build (formerly painted seat pedestals)

Hi Hein,

Do you have a blog of how you did this? I am very new and would like to attempt doing this myself and could use your help. I will appreciate any further info.

More parts and pics:

Rubber body plugs to replace Mercedes stickers.

Isotemp slim test fit. I'll have to add a 45 fitting to relocate (or just remove)
the mixing valve and design/build a mounting frame.

We have used a Scangauge in our Sprinter for as long as we've had the van and consider it an essential accessory. We had an early version that could not read all the engine parameters so I sent it back for an upgrade and Linear Logic offered to pre-program the gauge with the following:

I got the gauge back recently and remounted it on top of the steering column using 3M VHB and an angle bracket that I had heat formed out of 1/16" thick ABS plastic.

First photo below. Gauge with bracket and VHB attached.

Next. Flaming the plastic so VHB would stick better.

Gauge cable routing into space where tilt-wheel lever come out.

Last photo. Final installation as viewed by driver.

Next up will be to get on the road and watch all the newly accessible parameters. I typically watch LOD, coolant temp, battery voltage and boost pressure. Looking forward to seeing if the engine is in regen mode. Which parameter would be best for determining that?

All the best,
Hein

Thanks for the X-Guage codes. I have mine updated to 4.22 with quite a few of the ones you have listed, but not the DPF ash in grams...

Ever since I upgraded the Scanguage with new X-guage codes I have keen to watch for evidence of a regen in process. Last night, Kim and I took the van for a spin and the Diesel Particulate Temp was showing 1650F. Bingo! Let's keep driving... After a few more miles (~15) of interstate driving the temp was back down to more normal 1150F. Regen complete.

Thanks Scanguage!

Hein

Hein, Is that on your 2010 Sprinter? I can’t get the codes to work on my 2013, and I thought I had heard that pre-2014 engines didn’t respond to certain codes.

Cheers,
Greg

Yes, its on our 2010. I sent my older Scanguage in for an update and they did the programming for me. I have been monitoring Upstream DPF Temperature (°F).

Heading to my grandson's Birthday party in Colorado and decided we would take our mountain bikes. We previously had our rear door rack set up for our old cruiser bikes so an update was needed. I used the lolo handle bar brackets and some aluminum channels I had formed up for a solar install. Came out alright and super sturdy. I hung my entire weight of the front forks of each bike.

All the best,
Hein
