When you run all the way to the battery you can use heavier gauge wire all the way and then fuse appropriately(you are actually double fused and separate from vehicle operations). Checking power to the trailer tail lights converter is now easy to see, check and isolate. And you have plenty of amps.

I hate(respect) trailer lights and trailer light converters.
