Oh wow. Good reminder to drill the end of the crack. I did that on my kayak...
I find that step drills are more efficient with plastics than are regular twist drills. Twist drills can grab and may cause additional stress.

Harbor Freight step drills ain't the best quality, but they're fine for DIY use, and especially plastics.

Step drills are kinda handy to have around in general too.

When I use step drills in sheet metal I generally drill a pilot hole using a standard twist drill. Doing that helps the step drills last a bit longer without resharpening.
