I do !
I got it and use it A LOT!The 2017 build and price web site didn't list Low Range and I hadn't downloaded the owners manual. I had no idea it was an option. Our used 2015 AWD model didn't come with Low Range unfortunately. I'm curious. How many people have it?
I have it. When I built my 2017 it was on the build and price web site as an option. However, it was hidden way down at the bottom of the options and not by the engine/transmission choices. The 2017 build and price web site didn't list Low Range and I hadn't downloaded the owners manual. I also have no low range, and mine is a pain to shift as wellSince it looks like I'm the only one that doesn't have low range I guess I'll answer that.
You still have to stop. Put it in Park, then probably neutral, then in gear and drive. Seldom while it fully engage until moving, but that does make sense.
I've tried pressing the button on the fly. Simply nothing happens. It doesn't even try.
They've taken a big step back from our '63 Mercedes Unimog which had shift on the fly 4x4 and shift on the fly locking diffs.
I agree that ASR can be a hindrance in some situations. However, ASR can be a real boon in dry situations where you are picking tires up off the ground. I find some situations absolutely mandate it given the lack of locking differentials.Just adding ASR into the mix because I definitely didn’t understand that system when we got our sprinter.
ASR is a system that tries to stop an individual wheel spinning by applying breaking to that wheel. That can be great if one wheel hits a patch of ice. However, if you’re in an off-road situation like mud or sand where all 4 wheels are slipping and you’re trying to keep momentum, it can result in a sad situation where your van slows down to a crawl and gets bogged down while the suv driven by your wife blasts past without a care in the world.
I have low range but I’ve never needed it. For my money, turning off ASR has been far and away the single biggest thing I’ve done to improve the Sprinter’s off-road performance, next to getting good A/T tires.
Its there. Look it up in the owner's manual. The first few times, it took numerous attempts before it went in, and even more to get it out. But either it loosened up some, or my technique improved. Only hint I can give you is, your foot MUST be on the brake (As lightly as possible) and you will need to be moving...…..Less than 5mph seems to work well.2017 Build sheet says my van has X30 pkg “4x4 hi range with low range transfer case”. No hi/lo button on the dash. Only the DSR button. Is it activated through the DSR? Had not considered it until I stumbled on this thread because the 4WD + better tires has been adequate so far.
Nothing keeping you from trying it out, other than fear and common sense.Apparently, I have it. Or so the window sticker says.
I just got the van, didn't even know that it had low range until last night.Nothing keeping you from trying it out, other than fear and common sense.
