Question Westfalia in US?

I have friends who are looking for a new Sprinter RV. The Westfalia type is most suited to their needs. Does anyone have an update on the availability of a Westfalia in the US since the line was dropped by Airstream? I can't seem to find much on the web about Westy imports; seems a shame since it fills an important niche in the RV market.

Not a poptop but the Roadtrek Agile and maybe a similar one from Pleasure-Way are small.

There is one for sale on the Yahoo Sprinter Westfalia forum. I had to shop for a long time to find mine.

As far as I know there are no plans from anyone to import any more Westies into the US. We purchased ours in Aug '06 after we heard that Airstream was planning on discontinuing importing the Westy. Ther are approximately about 300 of them now in the US.
The best way to get more info is at Sprinter_Westfalia which is a Yahoo group.
There is one group member named Mike Sisk who is thinking of selling his Westy.
Below is a copy of his posting on Sprinter_Westfalia
David in Seattle

I've been thinking about selling my Westy, although somewhat reluctantly.
I mean, I love my Westy -- it's the best RV out there, bar none.
But the simple fact is that it's hardly moved for the past year. And a busy year
it's been --
I got divorced last year after a 15-year marriage (which included loosing my
business in
the process); got remarried and now find myself in a family with three kids;
bought a new
house; and started working for an Internet startup managing all the servers for
a top-
1000 website.

I'm just too busy to use the Westy and it looks like this trend is gonna
continue for a while
yet.

Here's the basics:

2005 Airstream Westfalia
Westfalia Serial: 4 00042
VIN: WD5PD644445635378

http://mikesisk.com/westy/gallery/gallery1/

Microwave: Gone. I wouldn't wish the stock microwave on anyone.
Top-mounted TV antenna: Gone. It spoiled the look of the van and didn't work
well (at all?
) anyway.
Generator: Removed. But I still have it and all the hardware.
TV: Removed. I still have it along with the mounting hardware. I put a
nautical-style
"weather station" in it's place.

I currently have the stock stereo in but I have an aftermarket Alpine stereo
with a wiring
harness that will pop right in. It has a built-in single slot CD player, an iPod
interface (with
the cable for the iPod terminating in the glove box). It also has a remote
control. I'm still
using the stock speakers.

Since moving here to Oregon 4 years ago the Westy mostly lived in an off-site
totally
enclosed and heated storage unit. For the past year it's been outside in my
driveway but
usually plugged in and I drive it once or twice a month.

Ironically, a month or two ago on one of those few days I drove it to work in
downtown
Portland and as I was leaving that day Ted Grozier happened to be driving by!

I also just had the van serviced which included an oil and filter change, a fuel
filter
replacement, the transmission fluid and filter changed (along with a "band
adjustment" it
said on the service invoice), and I also had the rear differential fluid
replaced. The oil and
filter has been replaced every 10k miles or less with Mobile 1 synthetic.

I put new tires on before my last big trip before the divorce last year, so they
have about
10000 miles on 'em. I upgraded to Michelin LTX M/S tires and I've been very,
very happy
with them.

Outstanding issues. None. Really. There's really not anything I'm still having
trouble with
(knock on wood). RV are complex machines and even in the most expensive class A
you
can expect issues from time to time. I'm sure something will happen, but for now
I think I
got everything that's been bugging me addressed to my satisfaction.

Mileage is a bit under 80k -- all highway miles. I have a *ton* of spare parts
that will be
going with the van. Things like an extra alloy Borbet wheel and an extra steel
wheel. Tire
chains, all the little containers that fit the rear storage area, a uninstalled
turbo resonator
elimator, extra oil filters, etc. The list goes on.

And you get unlimited technical support with the sale, too -- I been all over
the van and
have fixed a lot of stuff; I know it pretty well.

Now, the price -- that's tough 'cause I really don't want to get rid of it. But
I will if the
price is right. And for me that price is $65k. Yeah, I know -- but if you want a
throughly
debugged Westy...

If y'all have any questions just ask!
