Default 2 Door Wrangler Weight

I had the opportunity to weigh a JL 2 door Jeep Wrangler Rubicon on a truck scale this morning. I was very surprised at the weight which was 4420 lbs with no one in the car. The specs I found on line has the curb weight was 4145.

The question, are curb weights published with no fuel or fluids? I know the jeeps are available with options that may change the weight like a hard top and etc. but that was a lot of difference.

I was considering the JL 2 Door Wrangler Rubicon as a toad but now am reconsidering this as an option due to the weight. If you have any comments please let me know.

We have the JL Wrangler Sport 2-door weighing 4,000 lbs with 1/2 tank of fuel and back seat out. It is our tow behind a LTV Unity and just got back from a 3500 mile trip to Utah and Arizona from TN and it did fine.

The Rubicon version is the heaviest, D44 axles, tires, wheels. We flat tow a 17 JKUR but have added a soft top, fabric doors and aluminum skid plates. Guessing weight reduction of 350-400#ís.

My 2015 Wrangler JK with lift kit, 35” tires, soft top, soft doors and security box instead of back seat weighs 4100# with me in it at our municipal dump scales.

Thanks for the great info. We are going to look for a Wrangler Sport 2 door. The Rubicon we drove was very sweet but just too heavy IMO. How much do you think the rear seat weighs?

Well, my 2012 2-door JK Rubicon packed for the trail with lots of tools in it, full fuel tank, me in it and the soft doors instead of the hard doors tipped a set of 4-wheel individual scales at 5289# last summer, and was essentially a perfect 50/50 weight distribution. (However, my Jeep is also pretty far from stock...)

I empty all the tools and all the excess stuff when I flat tow it to get the weight down as much as possible. (And I don’t pack it with extra cargo that won’t otherwise fit in the Sprinter.)

The curb weights reported by the manufacturers are usually with zero options and no fuel. As such, they’re unrealistically "optimistic", and you really do need to weigh the vehicle yourself to get the true weight.
