Default Sportsmobile Gaucho Hardware Question

I'm currently re-building my Sportsmobile Gaucho since it sustained some damage during the crash that totaled the Sprinter.
Only one piece of steel needed replacing, and there's just some minor damage to the wood & plastic trim.
I've never used it for anything, but does anyone know what the purpose of the third hinged gaucho leg screwed to the inside of the front wooden frame is for?
It's identical to the two legs that support the cushion when it's in slide-out mode.
Retracted it's to low to offer support for the cushion, and extended it sticks straight up.
Is there a purpose to this or was it just there for when that same wood front was used for another application?

That leg is there to hold the seat up while you access the compartment underneath.
