Good point.

I always ass-u-me'd that it was a general reference to Euro model wiring/design. Not all of the notations are on circuits related to OBD. It could be a hang-on being used for that as all NAS aka NAFTA are 2001+ model year.

"2001: The European Union makes EOBD mandatory for all gasoline (petrol) vehicles sold in the European Union, starting in MY2001 (see European emission standards Directive 98/69/EC[5]).

2003: The European Union makes EOBD mandatory for all diesel cars sold in the European Union

2008: Certain light vehicles in China are required by the Environmental Protection Administration Office to implement OBD (standard GB18352[6]) by July 1, 2008.[7][8] Some regional exemptions may apply.

2010: HDOBD (heavy duty) specification is made mandatory for selected commercial (non-passenger car) engines sold in the United States."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On-board_diagnostics

The European Union mandated it later than NAS 2001, but that doesn't mean that MB vehicles weren't including OBD prior to the regulation. Sprinters and passenger cars share similar diesel engines. I don't think that it would make sense to have two different basic designs of Bosch ECM aka ECU spec'd for the Sprinters (as to having OBD or not). That said, Euro model OM612 diesel engines don't have EGR's as I recall.

So for an older UK vehicle, possibly pre EODB would it make more sense to go with a DAD? What would the Uk folks here recommend?

I don't believe anyone has ever imported a DAD from the USA to Europe so you will struggle to find one.

Your options are basically clone copies of the MB Star system, iCarsoft MB11 which is dedicated to MB vehicles, or the Autel MD802 or newer MD808 which if you get the full 'All Systems' model can talk to pretty much any vehicle with an OBD socket!!! A very big plus as I used to use mine at work on Audi's, MB cars, VW's and BMW's.

I am very pleased with my MD802 and would have no hesitation recommending one.

Keith.

I bought the Autel AP200 and it does access most of the systems. I did not buy the Dodge addition. I only got the Benz_Sprinter addition, mainly because it was bigger, and you can manually select several models of the Sprinter in the years 2000-2006 and get access to the Engine and Transmission for sure and many other modules. Basically there are two choices within the Benz_Sprinter to manually select and both work for some modules and not others. I've been able to cover everything I needed, way more than any other Bluetooth ODB2 Dongle and app.

Regards,

Mark

marklg is too modest ... if you start here: https://sprinter-source.com/forum/sh...687#post778687
he's posted screen shots of his smart phone running the AP200 app.

(and you can scroll up/back two messages to see my grab of the comparison features)

I can now confirm that the AP200 works fine with my 2003 ROW T1N via a clone Autel Benz CV-14 connector and Benz_Sprinter. Manual selection.. 903. It could even read my ZHE espar (the espar needs to be switched on)

The only issue is that for some reason Amazon wont ship the AP200 to Australia. So I ended up getting it off Aliexpress for double what you good ole boys are paying
