Yep wiring will be fun though I don't think they have as much wiring as an ambulance but there is a big loom cut under the front seat supplying rear lighting/air con/eberspacher/split charge/Brassmonkey is...
I've got an ex London Ambulance T1N so I know some of the electrical fun you're about to have!
Just dismantling the dash to pull all the surplus wires out, did yours have a load of 3 core domestic wiring all through which I assume was for the blue lightsYep, I've got the same van. If you have any questions, ask away and I'll help if I can.
Can you give a little bit more detail on that?eberspacher tries with a red and green light then stops
It's not domestic 3 core but yes, there's loads of it throughout the van and it does appear to be for the blue lights.Just dismantling the dash to pull all the surplus wires out, did yours have a load of 3 core domestic wiring all through which I assume was for the blue lights
I'll have to have a look, I never noticed one on mine!Found a siren underneath the alternator
No split charger on mine.Split charger works
Mine needed a bit of tinkering but worked in the end.Air con unit powers up
Mine was knackered from a leak above it.radio moved back to the dash
Hmm, is there enough fuel in the tank and juice in the battery?eberspacher tries with a red and green light then stops
Yes it has a second battery but the split charge bits were gone.Did yours not have a secondary battery in the back?
Sparkplug
Eberspacher fires up at what sounds like full speed fuel pump pulses it must ignite as warm air blows out then after a few minutes it shuts down
All the time the thermostat shows a red and green light
Cant figure out how to get the controller off the wall looks like half the front pulls off but don't want to break it
The above was run from the second battery with the engine running and the charging relay openIf you're getting warm air then that's a very good starting point.
Most common reasons for them to cut out are either voltage issues or overheating.
You said your split charger was working, which I assume means you tested the voltage on your batteries with the engine running and both were charging?
If that's true then test the heater with the engine running. If it works OK then you probably need to test the condition of your battery and either cycle/charge it properly or replace if it's dead.
If it still cuts out then try only turning the temperature knob about halfway. If that works then it's the heater's built in overheat cut out doing it's job.
My money is on the battery though. The heaters take a big surge of power when they're in the ignition / heating phase and then settle down to a more sedate running consumption. I can't remember the exact cut out point but I seem to remember it's somewhere around 11.5v. Easy enough to test while it's firing up with a voltmeter across the battery terminals.
If it's not plugged in I think I'd leave it that way until you find something isn't working. You can always move it around and see what plugs are within reach, that should tell you where it came from.On another note I found some sort of selector cable under dash on right of steering wheel it originates from the gear selector part number search says gear selector though another search says steering lock but the end is just loose any ideas if it should be plugged in some where?
Yeah I’ve checked voltage at headlight end and nothing. Tracing it back is difficult as finding a wiring diagram from from BCM to bulbs and BCM to stalk is very difficult!Check the volts at the lamp connectors, then work your back back from there. Possibly the two high beams were wired as wig-wags and as you say with the wiring not having been removed too considerately prior to sale, hopefully it's not too hard to find.
The front grille and bumper drop off really easily, might help a little.
Van looks great by the way, very nice motor and mileage too.
