Airstream Interstate Ext 3500

Looking at purchasing an Airstream Interstate Ext 3500. Thoughts? Do it? Forget it? Look at something else?
They look good and we think this is the direction we want to go. Already had the Monaco Executive, 27 Ft Jamboree, 27Ft Dynamax Dynaquest. Still want to travel around but want something like this instead of an SUV.

Any suggestions. Thanks

I would advise looking at a good used Interstate that's had all the factory induced problems corrected by now as opposed to buying a new one and trying to get all the problems fixed yourself.
A good place to look for information besides this forum is on Airforums.

I agree. Interstates have great designs and good materials, but initial build quality is awful--especially for the price.

We picked up our new Interstate from an Airstream dealer in WA 10 days ago and have been on the road for the past 7 days. Nice machine on paper and it looks pretty but, build quality is bloody awful.
Problems so far, most of which if not all should have been picked up in the so-called dealer pre delivery inspection - galley sink leaked to the extent that it could not be used, wiring to seat belt/air bag interconnect was too short such that when the seat was swiveled from the driving position to facing the inside of the coach it broke triggering a red error light on the dash panel, the locks on the drawers were not strong enough to hold the drawers shut when traveling, the radio/navigation unit is a piece of garbage and we await a replacement unit, the black holding tank is cracked, again we await a replacement, the 'instant' hot water system is anything but 'instant' and when hot water does flow it switches between hot and cold, close the lid over the galley sink when the faucet is in the hot(?) water position and water will flow until this is noticed, the rear drop down bed extensions and the two individual seats must be in the up (stowed) position before operating the switch to lower or raise the couch otherwise the overload device on the switch will activate and nothing will occur until it resets itself. Oh yes, one more issue - the customer delivery walk-thru was less than adequate; we have discovered operating procedures 'the hard way'.

Otherwise ok.

These deficiencies were discovered on day two of our journey south from Seattle and both Airstream dealers in Oregon were "booked solid for the next two weeks"; so we continued (with the problems) south to Fairfield, CA where Bay Area Airstream Adventures performed excellent service in fixing the issues, but, as it will take probably a couple of weeks to get a new black holding tank and a new radio/navigation unit we have elected to return to Fairfield and have this company make the necessary installation.

The journey so far is not exactly as we planned.

. . . . . . and the beat goes on. . . . . .
