shower handle

The shower/spray handle separated from the hose in the bathroom, maybe because of cold weather. Question is, can I reattach the handle? I did find a replacement for the entire faucet on a UK website, thanks to another poster. If I have to order the whole faucet, how hard is it to install. Thanks for any tips you can offer.

1. Hose and Showerhead

The showerhead/handle screws onto the hose. But if the hose broke from the attachment piece, then you might need a new hose and showerhead (Grozier found out that portion is the "Julia") and not the whole faucet (the faucet portion and hose/showerhead can be purchased separately).

Autocamp replaced with a different showerhead.

(Also, AutoCamp worked on preventing kinks in hoses. That info is somewhere on his blog but I couldn't find. He rerouted the hoses in the closet to make bigger curves, etc.)

2..Faucet Replacement

If you have to replace the hose, you will need to remove kitchen cabinet.

A..Service Manual

Has diagrams and details. Here are some photos from the Service Manual someone posted in this thread.

Some Westy owner was nice enough to convert to a pdf and it's posted here:

If you want the original manual where you can click and be taken to the linked item, you'll want Zach Woods zip files (but some folks couldn't get it to work).

B. Other Threads

Several Westy owners have removed bathroom cabinet to access faucet to repair leaks, change faucet, add new sink, etc.

Riptide has done several times and suggests a modification to reduce kinks.

SeattleWesty made a 4" hole in back of cabinet to help access to a kinked hose.

Grozier suggests care with the components to avoid scratches.

Discus replace.sink with a Corian sink, changed drain pipes to USA standards and added a HepVo.drain. Some of the photos seemed to have disappeared from thread, posts 5-8.

Thanks. We will go for reattaching it. It does not seem to be threaded, but there are a couple of o rings, and there was some sort of what looks to be silicone adhesive. I am optimistic that we can fix it without spending $$ and having to remove the cabinet!

Please keep us posted.

Juju and other posters seemed to indicate it was something which could be tightened (but not a threaded???).

In this advertisement for the Julia, the seller is selling the showerhead separately from the shower hose, and the photograph of the Julia shows it has threads.

It could be that your showerhead separated in a different cross-section so can't be fixed?

Also, Grozier indicated there was some other hidden screw which can be tightened inside the showerhead.

Thank you for the links. My shower head does not have the threads as shown in most of the links, but following a link in Ted's post to svb24.com, the photo there does look like mine. That pic looks like a hose fitting inserts directly into the shower head. Can't tell 100% from the pic, but that is what it looks like to me. ? There was rubbery silicone like material inside the neck of the faucet and on the mating fitting on the end of the hose. Two O rings on the fitting, and a groove filled with silicone which mated with silicone inside the shower head. We will try to replicate that. Hope we can find the right adhesive to do the job. Another mystery as to why mine seems to be different.

Ours separated just as you describe. I carefully cleaned the mating surfaces and siliconed together. It worked fine until moving to Germany where I was able to get an inexpensive replacement.

A cause of problems with these heads is build-up of crud and deposits in the holes. Periodically you should clean them with a very fine needle.

My handle came off years ago as well. I used 3M 5200 to bond it back together. If I recall, the handle might be "keyed" to the hose, so maybe making some alignment marks with some tape on each pice might help.

I eventually replaced the whole faucet and hose assembly last year.
