advice with crank bolt size

Hey,

I found some info on this site and hoping to drill a little deeper. Does anyone know the actual thread size and type for the crank bolt?

The 2004 bolt aka screw was originally listed as (Dodge) 05073696AA or MB N000000001884 (?)

I recently purchased the 05073696AA and would like to run and tap in on the crank threads but I cannot seem to find the size. It looks to be around an 18mm fine thread bolt.

Anyone know for sure the correct size?

Do you still have the old bolt? Cut it up into a tap.

If the threads on the removed bolt are all good, use a Dremel tool with small wheel to cut some "flutes" in the thread similar to what a tap or thread chaser has. Make certain that there's no ragged edges before running it in.

There's a good picture here https://www.instructables.com/id/Make-a-tap-from-a-bolt/ works well for cleaning threads, not so much making/fixing them, especially in a crankshaft. I'd use a real HSS (high speed steel) tap if there's any significant damage.
