Default 2002 2500 parking brake repair

It seems I have the common problem of the frozen "equalizer" mechanism. Vic wrote one of his many nice posts that I will copy here:

I've sprayed and lubed the assembly but even with some pretty good hammering on the pull lever it doesn't seem to budge . I can always keep hammering away but want to make sure that there's no other way to get this to unfreeze. Is there any value in removing the rear wheels and inspecting the shoes and cable connections there? Any feedback is always appreciated.

If you have time just let the penetrating oil soak for a while. I recommend a product like PB Blaster, Kroil, etc. over WD40. Transmission fluid is said to work too. Maybe apply more every few days for a time. Keep it soaked up. Heat may help if you're on a schedule. Be careful using heat after using penetrating oil.

I don't believe there's any value in disassembling the rear wheel parts yet. I'd wait until things free up. The rear cables may work ok, if not it's basically a separate assembly anyway.

This is our approach.
Using the African bush workshop methods --"Bring Fire mister you White Man Mazunga"!

Remove the compensator assy from the frame and detach the cables without damaging them.
Remove to vice.
Now we use an Oxy torch but a map gas blow lamp will do.
Heat to black heat concentrating on the sliding mechanisms .
Apply release agents and whacking them judiciously moving the parts back 'n forth with a
5ib ball pein or similar hammer.
Repeat the treatment washing out the corrosion until it all start moving with the pen lube release agent you have at hand.

Once free and still warm apply lottsa oils & grease to "aid de movement Maan !
Once all sliding about and making sure the cables and downstream brake mechanismas are not seized seized refit lathering the open compensator "Wid de white Man's grease MAAN!"
Oh so easy, even an ordin--ary white man candoit !

Yup, what Dennis said. Take it to the bench and work it. I remember taking it all apart (or as much apart as possible) steel brush on grinder smoothing everything, lots of lube during reassembly. Pretty much an old school repair/rejuvenation...been great since.
