Default Mercedes diesel oil change

My Unity is 1 year old, 8,500 miles and the dash says service in 6,500 miles. 15,000 miles seems
a excessive for the engine oil. I remember that my 2008 Sprinter diesel recommended service at 10,000. BMW and Porsche say to change the oil at 10,000 (synthetic) or 1 year even if there is only 4,000 miles driven.

Anyone have thoughts on this subject that they would like to share?

The 2016 dash says 20000 miles before oil change. Mine is a 2014 & I changed at 12500, because we are going on a trip that will put us over the 15000 mile mark. I guess mother Mercedes know best.

There are more opinions on this than you could read in a month just on this forum, much less on many others. Bottom line, some say that if the manufacturer says it's OK then it must be OK and others like to be more conservative (personally I wouldn't go beyond 10k miles.) If you want to be truly objective about it you can take an oil sample at 10k miles and see if the oil is fit for further duty. If it consistently is then I guess go to 15k.

The 2013 Sprinter had a 10,000 mile oil change service interval. For 2014 that increased to 15,000 miles and in 2015 it increased again to 20,000 miles. Just follow Mercedes Benz service recommendations and don't try to second guess them. If operated in extreme conditions, one could consider more frequent intervals.

I spoke with our local MB dealer and the service advisor said to get the oil changed at 1 year or 15,000 miles.

A Mercedes Benz service manager can say anything they want.
