My 2016 TB asked for an A service (oil service and other delights) in 17 days (I had my Unity for 18 months). I put in 5W-40 Pentosin. In the World Pac catalog (I'm a repair shop) states this oil meets MB228.31, MB229.31,or MB229.51 or MB229.52 I changed it at 10,282. I will continue to change it every 10,000 miles. That is the milage and time I recommend and I'm sticking to that. MB agrees on the time too.
FYI, this oil is good forPento High Performance II 5W-40
Size: 1 liter (1.06 quarts), Part# 8042107
5 liters (1.32 US gallons), Part# 8042206

Color: Amber & Clear
Special Class: Exceeds API SM/CF, ACEA A3/B3/B4/C3

Are you trying to present actual facts and wreck the endless debates over how many angels fit on the end of the oil spout?? :bash:

Let me preface this with the fact that I'm no slave to good engine oil needing to be listed on MB BeVo. I do believe in the performance based testing science of BeVo though.

I am not suggesting that Pentosin isn't a good oil for the service. Just trying to balance the angels.

Doesn't your 2016 require MB229.52 spec oil?

I didn't see MB229.52 listed in your provided specs.

Maybe I missed something? :idunno:

I have been faithfully following this thread now since it began and the one question that just begs to be answered at this point for me:

Does a Sprinter-Source forum thread with "oil" in the title ever conclude in less than 20 pages of responses?

Inquiring minds want to know.......
We are almost to twenty pages alichty. Get ready to drive a wooden stake into this post.

Doing my part to get to 20 pages.
191 and counting.

I knew it
I didn't jump in until 3/10/2016. You Unitites had already racked up 7 pages on your own and were gaining steam. (You never needed the wizard.)

My approx 8 posts represent 4% to date. This was one of them, back in page 12.

We are consistent with our Sprinter-source oil threads regardless of the originating section.

Once tapped, the information always flows freely. I guess that it's the nature of the beast.

(It's rainy and miserable outside right now, thus the statistics.)

Carry on.

Excellent discussion and did like (IMHO) what I saw as a good concluding oil recommendation (Pento High Performance 5W40)

A few other side bar items if I may from the Stephens article ...

- Use of an oil flush prior to oil changes (Liqui Moly) a good practice?
- Super magnet drain plug?
- Removal or perhaps modification of Belly Panels a good idea to improve air flow (heat reduction)?

I am told the 2018/2017 Unity's have Mobil 1 ESP oil as delivered. Your thoughts? True or false??
My thoughts are that nobody knows for certain.

Mercedes and Mobil have always been close so it is not a stretch that Mobil products are used at the factory.

Since 2010 Petronas shows on the formula cars. That indicates to me that the Mobil relationship may not be as strong as it once was.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_in_Formula_One

Petronas BeVo lists for both MB229.51 and MB229.52.
https://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/bevolisten/229.51_en.html

Bottom line is that manufacturer procurement departments and pricing often influence what products are used.

There may not be an accurate "True/False" response.

https://mobiloil.com/en/article/why...rs-trust-mobil-1/mercedes-amg-recommended-oil

"As the recommended oil for Mercedes-AMG, Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil is also the factory fill for several vehicles since 1992.
Current models include:"

FWIW. Sprinter was not on the Mobil 1 list (Look for models 901, 902, 903, 904, 905, 906).
