Dodge to Mercedes hubcaps

Initially I was thinking that I was going to buy new aftermarket rims, but decided later to just keep the oem steelies.

I found on the yahoo list that you can get cheaper hubcaps from your local Mercedes-Benz dealer. So off I went to a local dealer to purchase 4 caps (p/n: B66470203) for $32. The bad thing was that they were the kind for the Sprinter oem alloys and not for the steel wheels.

So, I either had to return them and purchase the real oem steel hubcaps for $60 or find a way to use the wrong ones that I had. I did the latter after finding out that the diameter space of the Ram emblem on the Dodge hubcap was very close to the caps that I purchased.

I essentially cut out the center of the Dodge hubcap to a large enough hole so that MB cap would just slip through, but not all the way. I did most of the measuring and cutting from the backside of the hubcap. I also modified/trimmed the MB cap so that it would mate nicely to the Dodge hubcap. I epoxied the two together.

Much more work than I had expected but at least it has more coverage over the steel wheels than the oem MB hubcap that is meant for the steel wheel.

oh man bad timing!!

I have the steels wheels w/the MB hubcaps, but I just bought the alloys and now need the Alloy inserts. We could have had a mutually beneficial trade going!

That looks far better than the MB caps I have to replace the dodge hubcap. Can you elaborate on exactly how you cut the OEM hubcap and made it all work? Thanks in advance.

I did exactly the same thing! Of course, I was lucky enough to have a buddy with a machine shop do it for me.

I'll post a photo in a day or so when I have more time.

I used a pair of calipers to measure the diameter of the mounting tabs on the MB cap, which is smaller than the overall diameter of the cap itself.

I halved the diameter value and used the caliper as a compass to scribe a circle on the backside of the Dodge hubcap. There are 3 reinforcement ribs on the backside of the Dodge hubcap that come together to make the center of the cap. I use this as the center to scribe the circle. I used a Dremel like a Rotozip to cut out the hole.

The MB cap has mounting tabs that hold a metal circular spring. I removed the spring and cut short the mounting tabs.

I then epoxied the MB cap to the Dodge hubcap. I should have taken pictures.

This is an oldie, but I want to know... Is there another way? I can't go cutting metal and glue it all back together. I've looked through 1/2 a dozen or so threads on conversions. There isn't much mention of the wheels.

What do Real MB Sprinter Wheels look like?

I have an 06.

The normal caps look like this...

Do a search for "david" or "rudi" and ask them if you can get a deal on these. A quick search gave me a price of $24.95 per cap.

I realized the Dodge Ram center caps are plastic. So, it isn't cutting metal, not that cutting plastic is much better. I don't suppose those MB caps snap on that would just be too easy. I suppose they could be glued on after a cut down off the backside, but there again the power tool component. I'm not supposed to use my dh's power tools. It's a long story...:smirk:

Good question I think they are , however at the back of the cover there is a melted back section in the center that may be the lock? I'll have a look today.

Does anyone have a photo of the normal caps (shown in Sikwan's post above) mounted on the steel wheels? I bought a conversion kit from Rudi but it didn't come with any instructions or the CD that other sellers seem to provide with conversion kits. It seems to me that I still need to use the larger center caps along with the caps shown above (and do something similar to what Sikwan did at the beginning of this thread). Otherwise, the caps shown above would stick out too far from the rim.

Actually, I just found the answer to my question. http://www.sprinterpartsdepot.com/p20/Stock-Wheel-Centers-for-2500-Steel-Wheels/product_info.html

now that's a nice one just need to highlight the star of stars. But first we must chrome it to make it bling:bow: and then protect the star of stars, to paint it black:drool: cool

Sorry to rehash an old post like this but does anyone have the MB part number for the MB center caps for the steel wheels? I have a friend with connections to a body shop that does work for the local Mercedes dealership and can get me a deal on MB parts if I have the part number.

Bear in mind this is for a 5 bolt 15" wheel, not sure if the 16" ones are different.
