Always worries me that securing straps & their plastic buckles won't be strong enough in case of an accident, having said that, my Brompton bike, plastic tubs etc are securely fixed with these, should be the least of my problems in a head on, Just me being paranoid I suppose.
I am using these buckles to tighten by pulling on the strap with a good 25 lbs. force. For taking the table off the resting place I release the tension before using quick disconnect. I am pretty confident this will not fly over my head and if the strap is not tight the vibration noise should let me know.

Hey George,

Your cabinets are exactly what I'd like to install in my setup. Is there any chance I could steal your plans and 80/20 list to replicate in my build? While I know it's cheaper to cut/build all the connectors vs having 80/20 do it, I love the clean look and simple assembly of the pre-fab setup.

Cheers, S.

Overhead cabinets are mounted. I am very satisfied with the strength of the total assembly. Still contemplating how to do knobs/holes and latching. The simplest solution would be to drill and route the edges of 1” holes and for latching just insert bars in channels.

On rough road the sliding doors rattle a little, so I will drill small holes and weave 0.016” dia fluorocarbon fishing line. I tested the concept and rattle is completely eliminated.

Next steps are to finish designing and building the cassette toilet housing, getting colorful windows curtains, floor and the heater installation.

George.

Here is a set of pictures; they should be sufficient to order the material but please check with your supplier. Some changes to drawings were made, a lower outer extrusion is square to accommodate window curtains sliders. Order information is correct. This forum member asimba2 recently recorded a video of similar OH cabinets assembly, see link below.

I was cleaning up my PC from old files and run into these final layouts, just updated the drawing with the Lagun table. If I would do it over again I would choose the same layout, experience from 2 Westfalias’ layouts and Safari Condo's cassette toilet concept helped a lot.

I really like the toilet ottoman idea. I have been keeping a link to your photo of that for quite some time as a place holder, until I get to that part of my build. One question though, how do you feel about the ottoman blocking the front part of the slider?
I have the two stage door opening and built my floor to extend over the rear half of the step well. I haven't figured out where my ottoman-olet will go yet.

This cassette toilet placement wasn’t my idea, I copied it verbatim from the Safari Condo van https://safaricondo.com/en/motorises-serie-sprinter-l19-lx/.

I also have the factory mid stop and us it. It can still be used to exit but it is easier with the door fully open. But, building up the step could present a problem.

Voilà improvements.

1. Purely esthetic change from black plastic Southco latches to Stainless Steel ones. We simply didn’t like the large black spots all over the van, lower contrast SS matches interior better.

2. Added a semaphore like overhead cabinets latches to clearly indicate latched position.

3. Change storage cabinet latch to lower profile so we can remove the lid with passenger seat swiveled 180 degrees.

The SS latches definitely improve the looks in your conversion. Looks and is higher quality. I used black latches with cherry wood in my conversions and think the black ones would look better than SS with the natural wood finish cabinets. So I think the latch color depends on the cabinet color. And/or the viewers opinion.

My wife suggested changing the fridge front panel from the old-style pattern laminate to a more calmer uniform finish one. I picked brushed anodized aluminum surface Polymetal and here it is. The panel is 1/8” thick and it is much flatter than the previous very thin laminate. The fridge is the Isotherm Cruise 85 and the panels size is 17 7/8 in X 23 1/4 in.

Silencing the bed

The new latching should null my main, only on rough road, noise of back and force sliding bed motion.

The design phase for the sofa-bed silencing bracket is done and parts are ordered. Some machining, anodizing and assembly are still left to do. Should be very quick to deploy, move the aluminum bracket upwards which registered by ¼” pin and latch it with the KIPP lever. Should be done seconds for both sides. Will be finished soon.

The brackets will provide additional reinforcement (about 2600 lbs.) to prevent the sofa bed sliding forward in case of an accident.

^^ The ones like this where the pull loops are hanging down... they don't rattle against the bed of the latch when the van is in motion?

I looked high and low for latches of that general type, but with everything I found, I was afraid that each one of the pull tabs would be going tap-tap-tap against the cabinet face as I was driving.
I never had a rattle problem in the sold Sprinter with the plastic latches. Did have rattles on two of the pulls in the new Transit build. Must be the inferior built quality of the Transit? Solved the problem by replacing the metal latch plates with a 3/8" thick rubber plate. There is a bit more than 3/8" between the back of the housing and the latch.

My SS Southco are absolutely silent after some modification, so this fix is for the sofa bed issue.

My van is dead silent with the sofa/bed in the bed position. In the sofa position the seat section moves slightly back and forth within available tolerance of the latching pin. The seat section is on heavy duty ball bearing sliders so it can move easily. Pushing the seat section back stops the noise, so this new device is to push the seat back tight against the latching pin.
