Default Most fun I've had in a Sprinter for a long time!

I went to fetch a Sprinter with a friend of mine today. He is planning to convert it into a camper. Now my friends and I have a slight habit of doing stuff the fun way. Clearly going out and buying a camper would be boring!

So he got this:

There is lots of room inside. He also went out and picked up a caravan for all the camper type bits.

But even better there are lots of interesting buttons inside to play with, and lights and things that make loud noise; great fun. I sure enjoyed trundling it down the motorway.

Great to see a vehicle like this put into future use. So how many miles on this?

It's done just over 200K miles, which seems fairly low for an Ambulance. A llot of them have at least 100K more than that. It runs very well. It'll need a bit of attention though; the exhaust has a crack in it and the sensors for the air suspension are hanging loose for instance. Basically it is sound though.

The electrics will be interesting, there are fuses and outlets everywhere. It's very neat. Some of it is completely seperate, but other stuff impacts the vehicle, you can flick a switch to make the headlights flash on and off for instance.

Hi all,

As I've now broken the silence and posted elsewhere I thought I would let you see the work being done on this one.

http://blogger.kritzinger.net/search/label/Camper

Work has taken a back seat for the last 3 weeks or so due to other commitments/issues, but is now recommencing as I need it done in time for the summer school holidays.

Enjoy!!

Craig

Looks good!

How much work on the removing the stickers and did you use a hair dryer?

Why didn't you leave the blue lens intact? I figure that would give you some sort of skylight. Oh wait, you folks don't see the sun that often do you in that part of the world.

Sikwan (Thanks for fixing the link).

312D my Sprinter works just fine, it just isn't legal!!!

Sikwan, I have hotair gun which I attempted to use for some of the stickers, but the type of material was real wierd (compared to other stickers previously removed on other vehicles) so the hot air gun was actually making things worse.

In the end the best thing was a window scraper and many hours of carefull stripping.

As for the blue lights. Not really legal in this part of the world, and besides, I don't really want it to look like an ambulance when done anyway. You are right tho' it has made things darker inside. I want to fit some storage in that area anyway.

Hi all,

I haven't been posting much on here about my Sprinter as the work I've been doing hasn't really been Sprinter related. It's been in the Ambulance body section, and none mechanical. HOwever I have reached the point where it's going for it's MOT test today so we're back to Sprinter activities.

I've been keeping a blog (see my signature) if anyone is interested. And feel free to ask questions (Maybe I should start a topic in 'T1N Write ups')

Craig
