Default Dementia and infections - possible associations

There have been a number of theories and drugs tested for treating Alzheimer’s disease, but the most recent round of potential medications based on these theories have failed.

It appears that the next focus will be on the possibility that underlying infections are a significant factor.

Here is one of many news articles on the topic, with the possible association of one of the herpes strains and a bacteria commonly found in gum disease. It is early stage work but interesting.

Dick, after reading the paper, it isn't clear to me which one might be the cause vs the effect.
