Default Sprinter re-locks the van if you enter through the side door

If I unlock my 2008 3500 with the keyless entry and then enter through the sliding door, the van will always lock less than a minute after I unlocked it. It doesn't matter if the door is still open or if I have closed it. What could be causing this? Is there a bad sensor so the van can't tel I've opened a door? I've also seen this behavior with some of my other doors, but it happens every time with the side door.

Are your cargo interior lights working?

I have the same issue with my 2008. If you get your key into the ignition before it locks, it will stay unlocked.

Some call it an issue..........MB calls it a feature ( auto relock) .

This is actually by design? Wow that is awful. For the earlier question, no my interior dome lights do not work. That's been on my list to investigate but I haven't looked into it yet.

Showkey forgot the 'sarcasm' emoji. The doors should NOT auto relock when any one of the doors is opened within about 30 s (IIRC). So, one or more of the door open sensors is not operating correctly. That conclusion is supported by your statement that the Dome lights don't work.

I really hate the auto-relock feature. Sometimes I'll unlock the doors and get distracted by something, then when I want to open the door, the dang thing is locked. Someday I'm going to rip the handle off the door trying to open it. I know there are valid arguments in favor of auto-relock, I just think the cure is worse than the disease.
