In our 2007 Great West Legend there is a panel on the rear passenger side that opens up into the area below the rear seat. Is there something else that is supposed to be built in there, such as a storage box? The previous owners just put a piece of foam in there and blocked it off.

Attached are photos of the panel from the outside with the door closed and open, and a picture of the rear of the inside.

Did anyone add a storage box or otherwise modify this?

It was a storage box or convenient storage opening. My 2005 Pleasure-way Sprinter had a similar storage box in the same location. M-B had so many restrictions in cutting a unibody frame that there were little opportunities. This must be one area you could. But it wasn't much storage. Mine was not open to the inside so no reason to block it off for apparent insulation.

Here is what I did with it. I made a box out of plywood to hold two plastic containers with the waste and fresh water hoses so they can be accessed from the side of the van without opening the rear doors.

Google hosts as https: and this forum will not show images that are linked as https:, so I uploaded smaller images to this forum instead.

There is a view from rear of Van, a view from side of Van, and a picture of the end of storage box showing a foot that supports it.

I adjusted the height of the shims in the van panel opening and the foot height so it just clears the seat mechanism. There is room underneath for storage of flat items.

To see a short video showing it clears the seat mechanism go here:

We keep our fresh water hose and power cords in a cardboard box accessible through that opening, also have room for some leveling blocks etc. Very convenient when setting up.
