Search terms

I aplogize if this is a stupid question, but how do you search for a pair of words or a phrase?

I have tried quotation marks and underscore and seemingly neither works.

Definitely not a stupid question. The vBulletin default search engine does seem to leave a lot to be desired. I use the Google search when I need to look for strings - putting the string between "".

I tend to use the Advanced Search most often. But that is because I have a vague recollection of most issues of interest to me since I started posting on Sprinter issues in 2003 - so I find the vBulletin date and subforum filters useful in narrowing hits.
