Hi,

Airtronic Digital Controller with Westfalia Adapter from Lubrication Specialists (paid $174.40) Only used once to reset Cabin Heater. $135.
Ideal for a Sprinter Westfalia owner. Probably a great item for the owner of any ESPAR cabin heater.

Thanks

I am interested in your controller and also what your issue was and how you reset your heater. Mine just quit working, fuse OK. Do you have to remove the heater to connect the controller? Any suggestions would be most welcomed.

Join Yahoo Sprinter Westfalia group for past postings. Westfalia used a special connector which Greg at Lubrication Specialist made an adapter for in the item for sale here. Do not need to remove heater as should be able to connect to socket on metal enclosure around heater ( do not have item so cannot verify; Greg made a pigtail adapter with standard connector for me). Heater will shut down after three false starts (apparently) and need this tool to reset. False starts may occur for variety of reasons, some ;which do not need any repair--just a reset.

I recently purchased one of these - Digi-Max D1000 - for the purpose of trying to isolate a problem with the Airtronic D4S heater in my Westy. I thought it might be more useful and convenient if I mounted it permanently near the cigarette lighter outlet on the side of the kitchen cabinet. That way I could also use it to control the heater from the upper berth. Only after installing it did I learn that it is not fully compatible with our heaters. Apparently Westfalia installed a custom ECU in our heaters...

1) Diagnostic features unavailable - incorrect protocol for D1000
2) Heater control - D1000 can turn the heater on/off - but can't regulate temperature
3) May be capable of clearing error codes and resetting the ECU but I cannot confirm this

For reference:
Model # of my D4S - 25 2293 05 00 00
ECU in my D4S - 22 5101 00 17 02

FYI:
Heaters do not lock after three times no start faults (need 255 unsuccessful starts to lock).

Here is an excerpt from an email correspondence I had with tech support at Espar:

We found from a list I have that heater model # 25 2293 does not have the diagnostic protocol used by D1000 and has DC ( Daimler Chrysler ) diagnostic protocol instead (still has EDiTH protocol) so unfortunately it is not compatible with D1000. 25 2293 is made for Mercedes and we do not have detailed information.

Thanks for your info, I ended up sending it in to a guy in Illinois (I think) that determined that I needed to add a high altitude pump, which I did and it has worked great ever since.

Oh, FYI, I left my regular fuel pump in the orginal fuel line and put in a by-pass lfuel line for the high altitude pump and a toggle switch on the dash. The Tech Guy said I could have problem with the high alt pump so if I am ever below about 3,500 I can switch to the original pump
