For the last 2 oil changes I went to Wilsonville MB, less expensive and no old sofa smell in the waiting room.

I prefer doing business with independent shops like Linden and MB Custom Sprinter. The feel is totally different and I'm old enough now to appreciate what it's like to do business with someone you can trust. There is essentially no accountability at franchises because they have a steady stream of unsuspecting, potential victims each week, methinks. And for the near future it'll get worse (boomers). I've been burned twice by McCoy and the first time the 'manager' groveled to get me to post a followup here. Given it happened again I suspect they were disingenuous at best.

I just called McCoy today to order some MB parts as I've done twice in the past. I was told that the Sprinter section of the business was closed down a month ago (I'm writing this as of December 17th 2021). I asked if they could still order MB parts and I was told twice the answer is "no" and was referred to Wilsonville MB.

It seems the outfit's name is now Premier Truck Group of Portland and they only work on larger Freightliners (Cascadia, etc).

It seems as if McCoy is a thing of the past!

It seems as if McCoy is a thing of the past!

Now why do you think that is ?

Excellent question! Seems like an odd time pull out of the sprinter game. Those things seemed like they were selling like hot cakes up there.

Imagining I had $120k and wanted a new Freightliner sprinter, just for fun I plugged in Portland and Seattle into the Freightliner dealer search box. Nothing within 100 miles (the max on the website) of either of the two cities. I found one down in the Bay Area though! Maybe the website is in transition?

Is MB getting a divorce?

Enlighten us Dennis!

MB is (has?) splitting into two separate companies: "cars" and "heavy trucks".
There are other threads about it here in the forum.

and

I had been concerned that Sprinters would end up a semi-orphan, but others thought they'd go into the "cars" grouping.
Thus a Freightliner dealer (McCoy) apparently has dumped their Sprinter arm.

Well Premier Truck Group is parts of Penske based out of Texas .
Penske is based in Michigan
This company as a group has been gobbling up big truck commercial dealerships nationwide and consolidating.
This organization as a group is doing about $30,000,000, 00 per annum in revenue .

Now if we look at truck business in NA, the heavy trucks are maybe badged Freightliner for their market sector specialization, but the power packs and running units are DEFINITELY not MB products as might find in Euro build trucks.
So mostly US made units all supported by Detroit Diesel Group.
Now the Sprinter range might have been commercial category vehicle in the past when imported by Dodge/badged Freightliner, and MB in the early years, but it has progressively morphed into a specialist product catering to a niche market vehicle, more akin to the private car business sector than commercial truck business activity .
Made only more poignant by recent announcements by MB it only makes good business sense to dump Sprinter platforms from their franchise portfolio .
Frankly I would have done the same.
Simply put, the newer Sprinters are definitely NOT commercial vehicles, and clearly don't fit into their business model.

Freightliner's corporate headquarters were (still are?) in Portland Oregon.
Their Oregon production lines shut down and were moved to Mexico circa 2006 (if i recall correctly).
I think McCoy Freightliner was a "company owned" dealership, that later became independent.

FWIW they always treated me well - it was one of the two shops I felt I could trust (along with Warner vans in SLC) and would put off non-critical repairs until I was passing through one of those two places. I'm heading down I5 from the Olympic Peninsula to the Eastern Sierra soon and will check out MB Custom Sprinter / MB Tech PDX for getting my front shocks replaced. :)
