2004 Dodge Sprinter Conversion Van with 237,xxx miles. $16,000 OBO.
We are selling our converted Sprinter van to pursue other projects.
This is a "T1N" Sprinter so you can run it throughout Latin America
without fear of the higher sulfur diesel damaging the engine. We set
this up as a gear hauler with a high bed over a large storage area
including a bike drawer with room for two bikes (the drawer slides are
rated for 500 lbs so you could easily expand the drawer). The bed is
low enough that it is still comfortable to sit and read in. Front seats swivel to face the living area.
Includes Engine Block Heater for those cold mornings.
Large side windows on cargo sliding door and behind driver's seat.
The good:
Well maintained engine, no sign of "black death". We just got a thorough tune-up in May and the Sprinter mechanic said that engine runs great.
Easy to maintain 12 volt system with room for additional lights or accessories. Currently includes:
- Renogy 200 Watt 12 Volt Monocrystalline Solar Starter Kit with 40A Rover MPPT Charge Controller
- Wired to charge from alternator when needed (manual switch). I've
rarely felt the need to do this.
- High quality house battery battery: Lifeline GPL-4DL: https://batteryguys.com/products/lif...nt=32270654980
- ARB 10800352 Fridge Freezer - 37 Quart
- LED lights
- Fan-Tastic Vent 801200 ABS LID Vent Create-A-Breeze 3-Speed Manual
Crank ABS Smoke Dome
Comfortable cooking set-up:
- Propane stove with a BBQ size propane tank
- Hand pump sink
Great bed: Zinus Sleep Master Ultima Comfort Memory Foam 6 Inch
Mattress, Queen
The bad:
- AC doesn't work. This is about a $1,000 fix. It needs some sort of new electrical panel. We haven't minded not having AC.
- It is hard to start below forty. Like many older diesels, it requires the engine block heater to be plugged in below 32. Battery is fine (just replaced it), glow plugs are fine. I haven't used any diesel fuel additives. I have used the Mr. Buddy to warm the engine in a pinch. You could always run a generator for the engine block heater. If you are going to run this often in cold weather without access to electricity, this is going to require some work with a diesel mechanic.
- Minor rust (for a Sprinter) needs attention. I just haven't gotten to
it. We'll give you the paint and primer that I bought for the project.
- Cracked windshield.
- We built this out ourselves. While it is fully functional (and comfy
and convenient), if you are handy, we are sure you'll slowly improve the
van build-out.
- The vinyl paneling on the floor has slowly been spreading out. If
aesthetics are important to you, you'll probably want to work on the floor in the living area either by pulling up a few panels (we have a couple of spares for you) and re-gluing them or replacing the floor. For us, we worried a lot about how it looked before we hit the road. Once we were on the road, it was all about functional living.
Comes with a few extras:
- Studded winter tires.
- MB Engine code reader.
- Mr. Buddy Heater F232000 MH9BX Buddy 4,000-9,000-BTU Indoor-Safe Portable Radiant Heater that can really heat up the insulated van.
Our "vansion" has been good to us. Sorry to let it go.
