Yeah its been a bit of a journey, i'm almost there. Just starting to install security into the van now and then after that i shall have yet another go at solving my air in the fuel system problem that's almost a year old & fit my new 5 tonne leaf springs to the back suspension.

Regarding head units i saw this after all the work i did, looks pretty good and uses your own phone, either Apple or Android:

Problem with cabinets for tools. You can't get to them.
Throw in a ladder or some wood. Now you can't open a single door. until you unload it all.:bash:

Hi ECU, if you look at the pics you'll see the main cabinets (sides & bulkhead) are all up off the floor, the wheel box cabinets below that store things like batteries, compressor and stuff thats not directly related to work so everything i use daily is accessible.

That was the main reason for making a compartmented cargo area - so everything is organised and to hand. The previous interior came to resemble a burgled house as i would chuck everything in the saddle boxes over the wheel arches and you couldn't find anything as cavenous as they were.

I even have the spare wheel, relavant tools, fluids and service components in the rear most left hand side compartment all to hand - no crawling under the van to get the spare out.

The collaspable ladder sits in its own compartment inside the sliding door along with my goto consumables like, silicones, fasteners, trade-wipes etc.

Plus the right hand (drivers side) only uses the two topper-most overhead cabinets as everything else is empty so theres plenty of redundancy storage-wise.

Now i'm in possession of a set of 5 ton springs i'm confident i can get the van uprated to 3840kg, might need to change the tyres though apparently, i'll have to check.

My £150 bargains bought them from a guy on the FB forum, he never fitted them and they look brand new, I was going to buy some later in the year but seeing as these were less than half the cost and in as-new condition I snapped them up.

Cheers

Roger,

What size and load index are your current tyres?

Keith.

Hi Keith

The tyres are Sailun Commercio VX1 they're 225 70 15 & the load index is 112/110 so thats 1120/1060KG

Roger,

That gives you a max rear axle load of 2,240 kg so IMO good for an increase in GVW to at least 3,800 kg

I have Continental 225/70 R15 112/110 and am plated at 3,800 kg from original conversion to a MH.

Talk to SV Tech http://www.svtech.co.uk/ about what they thinks need doing to uprate your GVW, they are specialists in this field.

Keith.

Back on topic:

Thought i'd post this as i've just finished fitting one of these to my car. For £130 odd quid its a great bit of kit and you don't need to butcher your dash or make one to accommodate a 10" flat screen. You can buy something similar direct from China for between £70 & £100 give or take depending on spec.

What's this got to do with Sprinters?

Well, when i look at the cost of the system in my van (£279.99 for the Head unit) plus all the time & materials spent fabricating a dashboard this solution, this latest head unit is way more cost effective. Also this head units chassis (blue anodised bit in ebay advert) is half the depth of a standard 1din lending itself perfectly to the awkward lack of volume (due to the dash shape and cold air vents) in the T1N. From experience fitting several standard 1 DIN units in my Sprinter over the years its quite a squeeze getting all the cables and plugs in then fitting the head unit in.

As for this unit, it has pretty much everything you'd need, I've set mine up like my Android phone, that is to say, Contacts, Music, Satnav, DAB tuner, IG,FB, News, Weather etc all tethered to phone via a USB connection in glove box (to keep charged) so i have Wifi also boosted by two 'blade' antennas in the 'A' pillars. On my Sprinter i bonded these antennas directly to the top of the windscreen but found no loss of signal hiding them behind trim on A pillar in my car.

Where i bought mine from:

I am about at the point to upgrade my front cab Alpine unit on my 06 T1N after the second direct replacement is acting up after two years.

I will need to have cd capability to maintain my dinosaur brain. I have sooo much music on cd's that I cannot give it up.

Having a pop-up screen would be great, especially for google maps. I have seen a single DIN for us T1N's, but this option sounds even better with a 10" flat screen!!!!

I never had the cab rearview cam setup when I purchased my four year old used limo from Sparky's Van to Go or whatever it was at the time, even though the cam is mounted above the rear doors. It would be nice to finally have that functioning with a dash screen.

I cannot give up my extensive cd collection, so I need this option, along with the ability to incorporate the rear cam.

Thanks for the great ideas that make this forum so valuable to all of us Sprinter owners.

My pleasure, forgot to mention this particular unit in my car replaced a pop-up 7" screen that kept jamming and cost considerably more than what i've paid for this new one.

I've spent a couple of days adding apps via playstore and loading music files from my pc indoors onto a 32gb usb drive that connects via a usb socket i've routed in the glove box and I'm more impressed with this unit than the one in my Sprinter.

If you can transfer your CD's (bloody boring, took me a solid weekend to do) to digital MP3 format and mount on an SD card or USB drive the worlds your lobster especially with apps like Poweramp. This is the only app i've found that can convert anything i've thrown at it and it sorts it all out and puts songs into album running order.

*EDIT* Also forgot to mention this head unit has forward-facing DVR camera and reversing camera connections (i have both connected on both my car and Sprinter) plus i think four more RCA-type plugs you can connect video outputs to so no problem there.

Cheers
