Tire pressure for beach and trail

Hi Forum,

I have OEM Kumho road ventures on 16” OEM alloy wheels on my 144wb 2wd.

I’m spending the season in Baja and trying not to get stuck along with wanting more comfortable ride exploring on the backroads and beaches.

I have a set of coyote air Deflators that can be set to any PSI.

What PSI do you recommend for traction, comfort, but also keeping the tire on bead?

Cheers!

Its dependent on weight. Here is a quick process from another thread.

Rule of thumb.

Measure your sidewall height (rim edge to ground) at normal/correct pressure. Normal/correct pressure can be determined using the tires load tables. Weigh your van loaded for the axle weights (usually only costs 5$ at a truck scale). My van fully loaded requires 50 front and 60 rear minimum for highway operation. I usually operate a bit higher. (245/75R16 tires, loaded to GVWR).

Subtract 25% from that number.

Air down your tires until the sidewall height has reduced to 75% of original.

This is just about the ideal pressure for off road operation. It will probably be different front to back. Note that your top speed should be lowered to prevent overheating or tire damage.

For deep sand/mud/snow you can go lower, but caution must be used to avoid unseating the bead.
