lost bathroom vent cover

Wicked storm last Sunday blew the bathroom vent cover away and shattered it. Does anyone have a source for replacement?
Was planning to list our Westy, the Giraffe, for sale this week and now this! Any suggestions much appreciated.

1. European Size Opening

The Westy has a European size hole: 400mm x 400mm (16"x16").

American standard openings are 14" x 14".

2. Seitz Mini Heki Plus

The bathroom skylight is a clamp-together style (no screws through the fiberglass opening). Instead, the outer frame and the inner frame are screwed together.

You may be able to buy a replacement, and just change the dome cover.

One American source no longer has on website but may want to contact and double-check if they have any left in stock.

Ebay and European sources include:

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fr...+mini+heki.TRS0&_nkw=Seitz+mini+heki&_sacat=0

Be very careful you are getting the item you want as the photos and item description are often inconsistent.

3. Fantastic Fan or MaxxFan

Many Westy owners have replaced with a European sized Fantastic Fan. Another option is the MaxxFan. You can search the subforum here for more info.

4. Timing

An option (if short on time) is to offer to include a credit for one of the possible replacement.

Domestic (which owns the Seitz brand) does list it on their US site, so it is probably available here in the US from a Dometic dealer near you. Which means parts for it might be available as well. I would almost bet that the parts for the current model would fit our Westy version, if one were to use the current SKU 9104100250.

Actually, the current one is pretty nice, with a shade and screen. Interesting that the web page says its available with and without forced ventilation...

https://www.dometic.com/en-us/us/pr...ghts/dometic-mini-heki-_-24659#specifications

If you scroll down to the bottom of that page, there's a pdf on how to install it.

I replaced mine with a Fantastic Fan years ago, but replacing the Heki is actually pretty straightforward, and not at all difficult, especially since it's a one-for-one changeout. The hardest part is getting the sealant off from the original installation. I bet I could replace the whole thing in under two hours.

If you were able to source just the plexi dome, here's some guidance:

Were it me, I would just replace the whole unit. There's some on eBay right now, in the correct color:

The Heki Mini on ebay in the US has forced ventilation, so it will not work. Those ones are meant for trailers, as they let air in while you drive (and are supposedly noisy). The Westy needs one without forced ventilation. The discussion on the UK forum in the link below cleared it up for me.

Below is just the cover for the Heki Mini. I haven't found one that is opaque like the original, as they all seem to be the same clear acyclic as the main skylight now.

I'd probably replace the whole thing, as it isn't too much more expensive than just the acrylic glass. However, you have to choose the correct roof thickness (I'm not 100% certain which one the Westy needs). Does anyone know if the Westy uses the 25-42mm or 43-60mm Heki Mini?

So that's what is meant by "forced ventilation"? I was thinking they were talking about a model with a built-in fan or something...

That's exactly what I was thinking when I saw the Heki Mini with forced ventilation earlier this year. I thought it was a 16"x16" vent with a fan, which was just what I had been looking for. Unfortunately, foreign camper jargon let me down again!

When a Euro vent has forced ventilation, it means that it allows air to be forced inside when the camper is in motion. There is no way to fully close a vent with forced ventilation. People on the forum in my other post claim that you can convert a Heki Mini to remove the forced ventilation with just a rubber seal. I'm not certain if the seal is really the only change between the two options, so I wouldn't chance it. I have also seen forced ventilation described as "permanent ventilation" and "fixed ventilation", but even those terms are fairly vague.

Someone in Arizona is selling the model for the Westy's bathroom on eBay for $200 plus shipping. That's similar to the total shipped cost from Europe, without the wait. It's the 43-60mm Heki Mini without forced ventilation.

I was looking through the Airstream Westfalia Parts Catalog, and saw that Airstream noted that the bathroom skylight uses the 43-60mm frame.

900001539275
Installation frame assy. (shower room)
For roof thickness of 43-60mm

Interestingly, they also have part numbers for a Heki Mini in the passenger compartment. I wonder if they were planning a cheaper Westy without the Heki 4 Plus?

900001539688
Small skylight (passenger compartment)
Under frame with two blinds (screen and shade)

900001539274
Installation frame assy. (passenger comp)
