Default Ford Transit Options, Build Sheet Choices and Details

It would be nice to know what new owners have ordered or learned about the options which most people might want for a base before RV conversion. The Sprinter has some watch outs as to "you can't order this without that" or "This doesn't come with that even though it should". That's the type of stuff I have in mind for this thread.

Meander away.

Van ordered 10-10-14 and should be delivered 1-19-15. The Ford roll out has upset a lot of people due to slow delivery and Ford's apparent lack of information to keep the buyer aware of the order status and rail shipping problems. Mine was not a problem and I looked at it yesterday and all the options were on the window sticker. This van was ordered for a camper conversion.

What was ordered with wholesale price :

R2X0 Transit 250 high roof van with 148" WB. $32,551 Need height for fold up bed design and
1 1/2" thick composite floor.
UJ Sterling Grey $150 Metallic paint much cheaper than Sprinter.
C Cloth seats instead of vinyl. No charge.
B Charcoal seat color instead of grey. No charge
101A Preferred equipment package. XL trim. No charge
57B Manual air conditioning. No charge.
99G 3.5L GTDI twin turbo gas V6 $1590 Fun to go fast in a big ugly van.
446 6 speed auto/manual automatic transmission.
TC8 235/65R16 tires. Either Continental or Hancook
X3L 3.31 limited slip mechanical rear axle. $277
Ca. new vehicle board fees. .65
Front license plate bracket No charge.
17B Fixed passenger side slider window and rear windows. $129
20B 9000# GVWR package. No charge
21D Charcoal cloth 2 way manual seat adjustment. $60 one step above base but not power.
425 50 state emissions. No charge.
43R Reverse park aid. $252 Distance sensors in rear bumper. 3 times I hit stuff with Sprinter.
53B Trailer tow package. $397 2" receiver and two different plug connections. I think this option includes the trailer haul control to reduce gear hunting.
59B Trailer wiring provisions. No charge.
53K Modified vehicle wiring. No charge.
5542 Mirrors, short arm heated with turn signals. $133 There are 4 mirror choices.
57N Rear window defroster. No charge.
58V AM/FM/single CD radio. $293 One step up above base radio to get 4" info screen. There are 4 or 5 radio choices.
60C Cruise Control. $277
61C Rear View camera. $214 3 times I hit stuff with Sprinter.
63C Heavy duty alternator. $222
63E Dual heavy duty AGM batteries. $252
64H 6.5 x 16 black steel wheels. $29 Prefer black to silver wheels. Will discard wheel covers. Spare is black so I can rotate all 5 tires. Spare does not have sending unit.
67C Four User defined switches on dash. $73 20 amp fuses in fuse block included.
67D Trailer brake controller. $196 Adjustment slider on dash for electric brakes.
68B Remote start. $422 On key fob.
85D Cargo area LED lighting. $60
86F Two additional keys. $64
90B 12 volt power point at rear doors. $12
92E Privacy Glass $341 Expensive for 3 windows.
94C Map lights front. $48
Destination $995 This has recently been increased. We will see what I pay.
Fuel Charge $83.00
Advertising assessment. $625 In other works base price is $625 higher.

Agreed to $39,600 + fees which is about $117 over "dealer cost" or $3788 under sticker.

Several items have had price increases since I ordered. Will see how that is handled. There are also several discount deals between $500 and $2000. Will see what I get there. Sprinter in 08 cost over $44,000 out the door. Transit is not a diesel.

Now we will find out how it compares to the 08 Sprinter. Will be faster, mpg will be less, maintenance costs expected to be less, parts costs less, driver access better, driver access to back worse, probably better paint, expect it to handle better, electrical probably much better, automatic transmission far better than the old Nag1, repair costs less, many more city camping spots (dealer in every other town), better instrumentation, better radio, more comfortable, easier operation of slider door, less door rattles, passenger grab handle, probably better suspension, no closable bin on dash, no wood floor, etc.

The above is what I expect so will report back on what I find out is real. Could be wrong on some of the above but we will see.

Picked mine up and drove it home today. So far no surprises, but it was after sunset. I'll report back tomorrow.

Oh and Dave, did you pay a doc fee? I agreed to a $100 doc fee even though I knew other dealerships didn't bother, but I was surprised today when it was raised to $200. When I questioned that the dealership manager was called in and he really thought I believed him when he said it was a State law. I knew full well the state regulated the MAXIMUM they could charge, but was in no mood to cancel the deal over it.
I have since emailed my salesperson to let him know that I didn't fall for his manager's BS but just went along to get the deal done.

Dave,
Thanks for your typically detailed information and candid response.

Thanks especially for putting the actual numbers out in this post. I think that the tendency is to not do that because that leaves you open to discovering someone else got a better deal. My general philosophy after making a large purchase is to stop looking at prices. There's generally nothing you can do to change things after a purchase. It is easy to find better prices and not realize that you may be comparing apples to oranges.

The thrill of the hunt is over. I feel it's better overall to let go and just enjoy your new acquisition.

I'm not always great at math. Using your numbers the sticker price was $43,388.00 without fees? You indicated $3788 off sticker.

You custom ordered your Transit.

As a guide for other purchasers...

$43,388.00 with $3788.00 off is 0.087 or about 9% off sticker for a custom build. Do my assumptions and math put me in the ballpark?

I generally end up buying something off the lot, but I don't always get what I really want by doing that. Maybe someday I'll actually order something new.

I got 5 quotes for the van. The local dealer was very helpful getting me information so I gave him the opportunity to match the lowest price which he did with a bit of grumbling. Not too smart buying a new design vehicle the first year and before they have excess on their lots. But I am old and may have a limited amount of time left driving so bought it now. The sticker price was $43,388 as you figured out. May have to pay a bit more because Ford increased the price of a couple of options and the shipping went up $200. I am sure someone else has gotten a better deal from a hungry dealer. What I paid was competitive in my area.
I never have bought a new vehicle off the lot. Save money ordering exactly what you want and force dealers to compete with each other. The disadvantage is the wait for delivery.

Not house batteries. Start batteries. Required if you want the 4 user defined dashboard switches that are set up with 20 amp fuses. You also get 3 fused 60 amp terminals on side of driver's seat base. The two batteries are a no charge addition when you buy a diesel.

That's close to the build I would get. I'm debating dual sliders.

I got the high roof long wheelbase extended body 3.5 Ecoboost in Silver.
Loaded it up, base price was $36,585
Options $ 8,355
Destination $ 995

Total MSRP $45,935
I got it X-plan , which was $100 over invoice, $42,936
Most guys in the Transit forum are paying around invoice
I got $2,250 in rebates additionally, so $40,686 plus tax, registration, $95 for a full tank (what a ripoff at $1.75 per gallon where they filled it up on Woodward Avenue!) $200 doc fee (another rip off)
